KNBR PD Mike Hohler: What’s on Radio Will Always Come First, But We’re Putting a Big Focus on Digital

"Over the next several years and decade, a big part of our focus has to be on what we’re doing with social media — on the stream, Instagram, X.”

KNBR Program Director Mike Hohler is still in his first months on the job at the Bay Area sports talk station. But that doesn’t mean he can’t have an eye on the future.

In a story with SFGate.com, Hohler shared that while radio will always be the station’s bread and butter, they need to turn an eye on the digital aspect of the business, too.

“What’s on the actual air, on terrestrial radio, is always going to come first,” Hohler said. “But over the next several years and decade, a big part of our focus has to be on what we’re doing with social media — on the stream, Instagram, X.”

He added that the recent addition of Larry Krueger will help play into that digital focus, with special shows on YouTube being a priority going forward.

Hohler was named the new leader of KNBR in July after former Program Director Adam Copeland relinquished the role to focus on his afternoon drive show with Tom Tolbert.

A 20-year veteran of the Cumulus Media station, Mike Hohler also shared that KNBR had inked a five-year extension with the San Francisco 49ers to remain the team’s flagship radio home. The station has served as the radio flagship of the NFL franchise since 2005.
