Over the weekend, Caitlin Clark made her WNBA playoff debut and while the NFL was in action, many wondered how the numbers would shake out for the broadcast of the matchup between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun. Those numbers are in and the game will go down as the most-watched WNBA postseason game across ESPN platforms ever.
Despite the game being a 24-point win for the Sun, the game averaged 1.8 million viewers and peaked at 2.2 million. The game was up more than 330% over the 2023 first round game shown on ABC.
ESPN notes the game was also the most-viewed non-finals playoff game in 25 years across all platforms.
Additionally, Sunday’s four WNBA playoff games averaged 792,000 viewers, which is up 89% versus last year’s first round average across ABC and ESPN.
WNBA Countdown was also up. The pregame show averaged 9% more audience versus last year’s full-playoff average across ABC and ESPN.
Game 2 of the series will be played Wednesday Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
