880 ESPN New York host and the television voice of the New York Yankees, Michael Kay said on his radio show that he will be calling the AL Wild Card Series on ESPN that will feature the Houston Astros. The Astros will be the home team and host the #3 AL Wild Card team in a three-game series scheduled for Oct. 1, Oct. 2 and Oct. 3 should all three games be needed.
“I have some broadcasting news,” Kay said to his partners Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg on The Michael Kay Show. “I’ve been assigned by ESPN to do the Wild Card series in Houston on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. So, I’ll be leaving for Houston after the game on Sunday, attend the workouts there, do the show from Houston.
“We don’t have the times yet, but the whisper is that the first game of the Houston series would be about 2:30 (ET) on Tuesday, all subject to change.”
Kay also said he will be working with Todd Frazier and Tim Kurkjian in the booth with Alden Gonzalez doing reports and interviews from the field.
Kay added, “It’s a really strong group. Really looking forward to it.”
La Greca quipped that Major League Baseball and ESPN should have looked into Kay’s show schedule before scheduling him for a mid to late afternoon game, and that it was disrespectful to Kay. Kay said his hope is for quick games and that he will be able to join the radio show for the last hour.
All of the Wild Card games will be carried by ESPN, ABC and streaming through MLB.TV. The network is expected to release their full lineup of broadcasters once the regular season comes to an end and the games and locations become official.
