It was billed by some as ‘the game of the year’ at least so far as SEC rivals Georgia and Alabama got together this past Saturday night. Earlier that day, ESPN College GameDay was in Tuscaloosa and the broadcast up almost 40% over the week 5 broadcast from 2023. The show averaged 2.3 million viewers overall and averaged 3 million viewers for the last hour.
The game becomes the most-watched September episode since 2010 and the second-best September show of all-time.
College GameDay, hosted by Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, Nick Saban, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit, is currently on pace to have its best season ever.
The show started back in 1987 with Tim Brando and Beano Cook joining Corso. In 1993, the show began incorporating live, on-site broadcasts from various college campuses. Davis replaced Chris Fowler who stopped hosting the show after the 2014 season.
