Angel spent 58 years with the station, serving as the host of the station’s Morning Report, as well as a play-by-play broadcaster for local sports.

“Being that guy in the morning to turn to to get the information they need – that’s a pretty cool responsibility –  as long as you do it right, people put their faith in you,” said Angel to The Newport Daily News of his responsibilities as the station’s morning host.

“Bobb Angel is part of the history, the fabric and the life and times of thousands of Newporters,” the station said in a release announcing his retirement.

Angel is a member of the Rhode Island Broadcasters Hall of Fame, where he was inducted in 2010. Despite leaving the morning show, he’ll continue to serve as a play-by-play broadcaster for the station, and will still provide morning sports reports.

He is being replaced in the daypart by longtime WADK broadcaster Bruce Newbury, who has worked at the station since 1988.
