After departing 590 The Fan earlier this year when the station ended local programming, Kevin Slaten is set to launch a new radio show on a station near St. Louis.
Beginning on Monday, October 15th, Kevin Slaten will be heard on 980 KSGM in Ste. Genevieve, which is located roughly 60 miles south of St. Louis along the Mississippi River.
“I don’t have to do it, but I enjoy it. It keeps you in touch with what’s going on. I still love doing it; I feel like I’m 25,” Slaten told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I enjoy staying active.”
The show hosted by Slaten will be heard from 2-4 PM and will be produced from his home studio, avoiding the drive south. He said had he been forced to do his show from the station, he would not have accepted the offer.
KSGM is a country music formatted station, but is adding Kevin Slaten to its lineup based on his name recognition and notoriety.
“We’re a typical small-town radio station and very proud of the music we play,” Program Director Scott Hines said. “But we also have people (listening) who love sports.”
“Everybody knows Kevin,” Hines said. He continued by noting that adding the former 590 The Fan host is “better than going with national shows. Kevin will bring a mix of things to the proverbial table.”
