CNN had previously announced plans to host Vice President Kamala Harris for a town hall event, with a similar offer to former President Donald Trump. The network says they haven’t heard back from the Republican nominee.
On Wednesday, October 23rd, Harris will sit down in Delaware County, Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia for a live, in-person event hosted by Anderson Cooper.
Last week, the network made pitches to both candidates after the Trump campaign made it clear that the candidate would not participate in a last-chance debate on Fox News. The Harris campaign accepted the CNN offer less than a day after the offer was made public. Initially, the offer was made to host both candidates on the same day, but with separate events and moderators.
However, the network says Donald Trump has not accepted the opportunity, so it is now focusing on its event with Kamala Harris.
“His campaign has not committed to participate, so we are moving forward with a Town Hall event with VP Harris taking questions from a live audience of Pennsylvania voters who say they intend to vote in November,” a network spokesperson said Friday.
Donald Trump famously participated in a 2023 CNN town hall moderated by Kaitlan Collins. The appearance caused internal strife at the network that ultimately led to the dismissal of network President Chris Licht. It also propelled Collins to a primetime spot in the network’s lineup.
