I've absolutely loved my time with 680 The Fan and the Braves Radio Network, but it's come time for me to be more of a dad.

Kevin McAlpin, who has been part of the Atlanta Braves Radio Network for the past 13 seasons on 93.7 and 680/The Fan has announced he is stepping down from his role as pre- and post-game host. McAlpin had been a game reporter for eight seasons and hosted the network coverage for the past five seasons.

McAlpin made the announcement and then posted a video on his X account.

“…I wanted to take a quick minute to follow up on the story that I dropped on all of you earlier this afternoon, that yes indeed, the 2024 season will be my final year full time with the Atlanta Braves Radio Network. You know, 13 years has gone by like that, and it has been an incredible run that I’ve had with Braves Radio,” McAlpin wrote.

McAlpin explained that while he enjoyed his time and looked back on many of the memories he will take with him, the fact of the matter is, he has two young kids and wants to be more a part of their lives, especially during the summer.

“To be a very, very small part of the largest radio network in all of professional sports has been an absolute honor, but it’s also come with a bit of a price as well,” McAlpin said. “I’ve missed weddings, I’ve missed my kids’ birthdays, I’ve missed anniversaries with my lovely bride Melissa, I’ve missed summer vacations with the kids. I don’t say that looking for sympathy, because I’ve been so fortunate to be around for Tripper Jones’ final season in 2012. Nine trips to the playoffs in 13 years, pretty good run. Seven NL East titles, and of course, that night in Houston in November of 2021 that I know none of us will ever forget.

“It’s been an incredible journey, it’s been one that I’ve loved sharing with you every single night for six to seven months out of the year between going to spring training in Orlando and more recently Northport, to being part of the pre- and post-game show every single night.

“I’ve absolutely loved my time with 680 The Fan and the Braves Radio Network, but it’s come time for me to be more of a dad. To be home for dinner with my kids every single night. To be at Max’s baseball games, to be at Mia’s gymnastics classes on weekends, and more importantly, get a chance to take a few summer vacations before they’re out of the house. It goes by quick, as a lot of you folks out there with kids, it will certainly be well understanding of.”

McAlpin thanked his employers and at Dickey Broadcasting and said, “you guys took a chance on me way back in 2012, this kid from Philadelphia coming down to cover the Braves, I will be eternally grateful.”

To my co-host and all the other great hosts at 680 to Fan…I’ll miss working with you guys on a daily basis, but believe me, we’ll be tuned in every single night. And to you Braves fans, all I can say is a simple thank you. Thank you for listening, thank you for making me a part of your Braves content and your Braves coverage, seven months out of the year, it’s been a pleasure.”

McAlpin ended by saying there would still be baseball content he will be creating and told his followers to “stay tuned for that.”
