Lawyers for Donald Trump demanded that CBS News share the full, unedited 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. The network has now responded to those demands.

Attorneys for the former President sent a letter to CBS demanding that the network “preserve all communications and documents” regarding its 60 Minutes interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, otherwise, they would consider launching a lawsuit against the organization.

In its response, attorneys for CBS shared that any potential litigation from the Republican nominee was, essentially, nonsense. It argued that the First Amendment “fiercely protects” the editorial judgments made by the network and program.

“Nor is there any legal basis for your demand that we provide you with the unedited transcript of the interview, which we decline to do,” the letter from CBS News Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs Gayle C. Sproul said.

CBS News has maintained that the entirety of an answer in question from Trump has already aired.

60 Minutes gave an excerpt of our interview to Face the Nation that used a longer section of her answer than that shown on 60 Minutes. Same question. Same answer,” a statement from the network says. “But a different portion of the response. When we edit any interview … we strive to be clear, accurate, and on point. The portion of her answer on 60 Minutes was more succinct, which allows time for other subjects in a wide-ranging 21-minute-long segment.”

CBS News has maintained that it did not selectively edit the interview. It also noted it was Donald Trump who pulled out of participating in an interview with the news magazine show.
