Swift has been in a long-time battle to regain control, dating to 2019 when Ithaca Holdings acquired Big Machine Records, which gave them control of her early music.

“I signed a record deal when I was 15. I never owned my music at all,” she said.

Swift famously re-recorded all the music, re-releasing them as “Taylor’s Version.”

When Ithaca sold the masters to Shamrock Capital for over $300 million, Swift sent her mother and brothers to do the negotiations.

Swift said that when her mother told her, “You got your music,” she emotionally fell to the floor.

“This will affect the rest of my life,” Swift said. Adding that it wasn’t about royalties, but it was more about the deeply personal nature of the songs.

Swift also used the appearance to announce her 12th studio album titled “The Life of a Showgirl.”

According to a report by Variety, the podcast’s viewership topped 1.3 million concurrent viewers, literally breaking the internet and leaving viewers staring at a blank screen.
