After more than seven years on the air in Tampa mornings, Laura Diaz is preparing to close one chapter of her career and begin another outside of media. Diaz, who co-hosts mornings on iHeartMedia AC Mix 100.7, announced she will be leaving the station at the end of the week. Her final day is set for Friday, September 5.
“It is time for me to start a new chapter of my life and I’ve decided to step away from the show and I will be pursuing a career outside of the radio business. Yeah, stepping away from media,” Diaz told listeners during the morning show. “I’ll be in Tampa. I’ll be around.”
Diaz joined WMTX in January 2019 arriving in Tampa Bay after spending seven years as a co-host on Johnny’s House at XL 106.7 in Orlando. Beyond radio, Diaz also built a background in television news, having worked as an anchor and reporter in Orlando and Monroe, Louisiana.
Throughout her tenure at Mix 100.7, Diaz brought a mix of personality, relatability, and journalistic polish to mornings, carving out a loyal listener base in the competitive Tampa market. Her exit reflects a growing trend of on-air talents pivoting into new industries, a reminder that career paths in media are often evolving.
In a social media post, Diaz thanked her devoted listeners for their support over the years.
“After more than 20 years in media, I’m hanging up the mic,” she posted. “Thank you so much for sharing your mornings and hearts with me over the years. I’m forever grateful for you.”
While Diaz steps away, mornings at WMTX will continue with her co-host, Brody. He joined the station in April 2019, a few months after Diaz’s arrival, and will now take on a larger role in guiding the program.
Listeners will have the chance to hear her sign off one last time this Friday, closing out a memorable run in Tampa morning radio.
