Dustin “Haze” Monroe has departed iHeartMedia CHR “Z107.7” KSLZ in St. Louis. He served as APD and afternoon host at the station. And may or may not be part of a larger story
What We Know: Monroe returned to KSLZ in May 2024 after previously hosting nights there from 2006 to 2009. He also tracked weekend shifts for several of iHeart’s Alternative stations. His St. Louis résumé includes stints at CHR “Now 96.3” KNOU (2015–20) and Hot AC “Y98” KYKY (2020–23). He launched his career in 2002 at KJCK in Manhattan, Kansas.
What’s at Stake: Z107.7 now faces a gap in both its programming leadership and afternoon daypart. The APD role carries real influence over station sound and staff development. Additionally, Monroe’s weekend tracking work across multiple iHeart Alternative outlets leaves a void. Those shifts represent cost-effective content that will need to be filled.
What Remains Unclear: No official reason has surfaced for Monroe’s exit. It’s unknown whether iHeart plans to promote from within or conduct an external search. Furthermore, it’s unclear whether his weekend tracking responsibilities will be redistributed or eliminated. His next career move has not been announced.
What It Means: Monroe’s departure reflects the ongoing volatility across iHeartMedia’s programming ranks. Yet his track record — spanning markets from Wichita to Detroit to Norfolk — makes him an attractive candidate for programmers looking for experienced talent. His blend of on-air and APD experience is relatively rare. Consequently, it’s unlikely he stays on the sidelines for long.
