Dianna Russini is preparing a return to sports media reportedly next week. The former NFL insider could launch new content as BetUS Casino is teasing an announcement launching next Wednesday.
What We Know: Russini resigned from The Athletic this spring after Page Six published photos of her with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. Now, several outlets are confirming she planning a comeback as soon as next week. According to Front Office Sports, an account on X was recently launched with a handle of @RussiniReport promoting a weekly football news program on Wednesday’s at 12pm. According to BetUS’s X account, they posted a video teasing a new show launching Wednesday with scrolling text messages popping up about a “return.” BetUS nor Russini has confirmed any plans.
What’s At Stake: If Russini does return with her own program next week, it remains to be seen how she’ll discuss the happenings of the past year. Russini has not provided any additional comment since her resignation from The Athletic on the matter.
What Remains Unclear: If this is indeed Russini’s destination, it’s unknown the backstory of how she landed the position. It’s also unclear what type of content she will be providing with her new program.
What It Means: For Russini, a digital show offers a fast route back into NFL coverage. Still, the bigger test is access from players, coaches, and the league. Ultimately, with the playoffs approaching, her credibility may hinge on landing that first big scoop. Whether or not this is the first step back into NFL media is unknown. But it’s likely the easiest beginning to rehabbing her credibility in the space.
