Dan Dakich Teases Potential Return to Indianapolis Radio

Is Dań Dakich coming back to radio in the Hoosier State? On Monday, a fan asked him that very question on Twitter, and the Outkick host had an interesting answer.

“That might be happening soon,” he said. “I have another decision to make.”

Last year, Dan Dakich announced that he was leaving 107.5 The Fan in Indianapolis after 14 years at the station. He had tremendous ratings success and clearly earned the respect of the industry. He was named the number one mid-market midday show on the BSM Top 20 four times.

Dakich did not elaborate beyond his initial tweet, although there was plenty of speculation from his followers.

Including The Fan, there are three sports stations in Indianapolis, although neither FOX Sports 1260 nor CBS Sports Radio 1430 carry local sports shows. Perhaps Dakich would be a building block to change that.

It is also possible that Dakich’s radio option is not in the sports format. His show at Outkick has allowed him to be more outspoken on his conservative politics. Could that open the door for a more traditional news talk show? 

No details are available right now. All we can do is wait for Dakich to make his decision and announce it either on Twitter or on his show Don’t @ Me.

New Fox News Primetime Lineup Draws Reaction From News Media

Fox News has announced a revamped primetime lineup featuring Jesse Watters stepping into the timeslot previously occupied by Tucker Carlson.

The new lineup includes:
7:00 PM ET – The Ingraham Angle hosted by Laura Ingraham
8:00 PM ET – Jesse Watters Primetime
9:00 PM ET – Hannity
10:00 PM ET – Gutfeld! hosted by Greg Gutfeld
11:00 PM ET – Fox News @ Night with Trace Gallagher

The reaction to the new primetime lineup was mixed, with many noting — both good and bad — that Watters was the logical choice to replace Carlson.

Other reactions centered on the perceived demotion for Laura Ingraham, and the move to earlier in the night for Greg Gutfeld, the self-avowed “King of Late Night”. Ingraham herself called the development “exciting”, before congratulating Watters, Gutfeld, and Hannity.

Travis Kelce: Podcasting is ‘the Hardest Job in the World’

During the season in which Travis Kelce won his second Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs, he began co-hosting a podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce called New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce. However, it wasn’t easy. 

Travis was a guest on the Pardon My Take podcast and said that he felt that playing football was less challenging than trying to host a show. 

“It’s the hardest job in the f**n world to keep coming up with content that people want to hear,” said Kelce. 

He did not know much about how to do a podcast before jumping in with his brother. Of course, the podcast gained a huge following throughout the year, including during Super Bowl week when the two brothers were going up against each other. 

Dan “Big Cat’ Katz and PFT Commentator asked Travis whether or not he felt he hit the wall during the season trying to come up with content or ran out of stories to tell. Travis mentioned his true challenge was trying to find time to keep doing the podcast during the long grind of a NFL season. 

“Thankfully, my brother is a hell of a storyteller and he just has them banked. I can’t remember what the f**k happens until he tells the story and I’m like damn it did happen. My brother is really the one driving it. He tells a story like none other.”

Fox News Announces New Primetime Lineup

Fox News has announced its new primetime lineup that will reset the network after the April firing of Tucker Carlson.

Jesse Watters Primetime will move into the 8:00 PM ET timeslot previously occupied by Carlson. The window has been anchored by a rotating cast of hosts since Carlson’s exit, with several prominent figures receiving the opportunity to helm the rebranded Fox News Tonight program.

Watters had previously hosted the network’s 7:00 PM ET program. Laura Ingraham will move from 10:00 PM ET to replace Watters. She had hosted The Ingraham Angle in the 10:00 PM ET window since 2017.

With Ingraham’s departure from the 10:00 PM ET timeslot, Greg Gutfeld will move his wildly popular Gutfeld! program an hour earlier. The late-night program has routinely beaten other network shows of the same variety and has battled with The Late Show with Stephen Colbert for late-night supremacy. In a profile with The Wall Street Journal last week with admitted he had considered the possibility of being tabbed as Carlson’s replacement.

Fox News anchor Trace Gallagher, will move Fox News @ Night into Gutfeld’s former 11:00 PM ET window.

Sean Hannity will remain in the 9:00 PM ET timeslot at Fox News. In 2021, Hannity became the longest-tenured cable news host in history. He has remained in the primetime window for the network since 2009 as a solo host and worked with former co-host Alan Colmes for seven years before that.

“FOX News Channel has been America’s destination for news and analysis for more than 21 years and we are thrilled to debut a new lineup,” said network CEO Suzanne Scott in a press release. “The unique perspectives of Laura Ingraham, Jesse Watters, Sean Hannity, and Greg Gutfeld will ensure our viewers have access to unrivaled coverage from our best-in-class team for years to come.”

The new primetime lineup will debut on Monday, July 17th.

Dan Bongino Refutes Claim He Was ‘Forcibly Removed’ From Florida Restaurant

Over the weekend, conservative radio host Dan Bongino was seen being “forcibly removed” from a Palm Beach restaurant.

Politico reporter Daniel Lippman shared the interaction on Twitter, and when asked about what happened, Bongino said “You’ll have to tune in to my podcast on Monday for the real story”.

On Monday, Bongino — who recently celebrated the second anniversary of his radio show hitting national syndication — shared his side of the story, arguing that the situation was not as it appeared.

“So, kind of an interesting weekend,” Bongino joked before delving into the situation. “The Bongino Rule applies. Wait 24 to 72 hours before you draw any final conclusions about a story because the first version is typically bullshit. So the Bongino Rule even applies when it comes to stories about Bongino…I’ll show you the genesis of how a fake news story works today.”

The radio host then shared that he, his wife, and a group of couples were out celebrating a friend’s birthday when they entered the Palm Beach restaurant.

“We’ve been having a good time for like an hour and a half or so. They ordered a bottle service for my friends, it’s a birthday, so I pick up the tab. It’s the right thing to do,” said Bongino. “We leave the lady a nice tip. Everybody’s happy…So we’re getting ready to leave. Everybody’s getting ready to walk out again nothing interesting. I look next to me over my shoulder and I see this ruckus and I see this guy he’s got this woman like in a bear hug dragging her out of this place. Like in a bear hug. This is like UFC style. This is a pretty big dude. And I noticed, ‘Gosh, that bracelet looks familiar. That’s Paula’s (his wife’s) bracelet.

“So, of course, by the time I processed what’s going on, the guy’s already outside and put Paula down. Thankfully, I thought he was gonna slam her on the ground or something the way this was going down.

“So I’m screaming at this guy like, ‘Get your hands off my wife’. Obviously, you gotta defend your woman. But we gotta go because I realized — you know how it is, unfortunately, when you get a public name everything turns into a thing right away…I figured it’s only a matter of time before somebody gets a picture of this.”

Bongino shared that Lippman had asked him if he had been thrown out of the club, which the radio host denied. He claims Lippman ran with the story anyway. Bongino argued that Lippman failed to do his homework, and the entire situation reveals how “fake news stories” are fabricated and then promoted in the current media landscape.

Former CNN anchor Don Lemon sat down for his first long interview since he was fired by the cable news giant, and says there are just some things he isn’t willing to do on TV.

While speaking with ABC24 Memphis before a Gala for the city’s NAACP branch, Lemon shared that his high-profile on-air clash with prospective 2024 Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy — that was reportedly his final straw with now former CNN CEO Chris Licht — was about showcasing the truth.

“I don’t believe in platforming liars, and bigots, and insurrectionists, and election deniers, and putting them on the same footing as people who are telling the truth, people who are fighting for what’s right, people who are abiding by the Constitution,” Lemon said. “I think that would be a dereliction of journalistic duty doing those sorts of things. That is what has gotten me to this point, and that is what is going to carry me forward.”

When asked about what his future looks like in television news, said he wasn’t “going to force anything”.

“I’m not gonna let others people’s timeline influence me,” Lemon said. “I know people say, ‘I miss you on television. What is your next move?’ I’m figuring that out. I don’t have to be in a rush. I think sometimes people rush to make decisions and they end up making the wrong decisions.”

He added that he’s “not worried, at all”, claiming that others are more worried about his future than he is.

Paul Finebaum: What I Did Early in My Career ‘Simply Doesn’t Matter Anymore’

Paul Finebaum is done with NCAA corruption. He says those stories used to be a big part of his job. Now, they seem irrelevant. 

“I don’t like saying this because I was one who always believed in the rules and who spent the early part of my career looking into transgressions and thinking those who did it should be kicked out of the industry. It just simply doesn’t matter anymore,” the SEC Network host told McElroy & Cubelic in the Morning on Jox 94.5 in Birmingham.

During an interview on Monday morning, host Cole Cubelic referenced an NCAA ruling that puts LSU on a three-year probation. The football program will also vacate 37 wins. 

The school’s former basketball coach, Will Wade, received a two-year show-cause penalty for his role in a major basketball recruiting scandal. That means punishment will be attached to Wade, not the school, and follow him, no matter where he works, for the next two years.

The penalties were self-imposed by LSU and the NCAA ruled that they were good enough.

“The message is clear,” Finebaum said. “Cheat like crazy and don’t stop until you win. I never thought I would say that, but it’s the truth. It simply doesn’t matter anymore.”

It is a topic that Paul Finebaum knows his callers will want to discuss. It isn’t something he is putting much thought into though. 

He said it is a waste of time because the NCAA’s authority is “a farce”. Building a show around the topic doesn’t make much sense.

“I am long past getting outraged and upset that someone like Will Wade gets away with whatever he got away with, or someone else, because if it doesn’t matter to the people who govern the sport, and by the way, that includes everyone who sits in on these meetings and on these management councils, then it’s certainly not going to bother me anymore.”

77 WABC morning host Sid Rosenberg has one of the biggest radio shows — regardless of format — in New York City. And yet, some guests would rather appear on local television mornings hows than his radio program. He believes that thought process is asinine.

While discussing his numerous television appearances over the weekend, Rosenberg shared that he will hear from potential guests that they prefer to go on local morning television shows. He gave a passionate answer for why they should reconsider.

“I still make the point that I’ve made it already once today. That as cool as TV is — and it’s great to sit there and watch yourself on TV, it’s pretty cool — that the for the person going on the shows that this is where you got to be. You’re not gonna get bigger exposure. More people will hear you on this show than watch you on (FOX5’s Good Day New York),” Rosenberg said. “You want to end today’s show? Don’t come here. We don’t need you…I know there are people out there that would forego an opportunity to come on this show to do TV. That is stupid. This is it.

“First of all, there’s nothing more intimate than this. There are just a couple of things you can say on TV to give you a couple of minutes, right? The whole thing lasts maybe eight minutes. Maybe you get three minutes. Here you’re gonna get 13 or 14 minutes, and we’ll let you speak and say what you want to say. And you can say things here that you could never say on television.”

He shared that he’s asked why he doesn’t have his own TV show on a cable network, before noting that he just views radio as a more enjoyable medium.

“People say to me all the time, ‘What if you can make the same amount of money? Have a big successful TV show or radio show?’ And I’m great at both, at the risk of sounding like a complete arrogant douchebag. ‘Would you ever leave radio?’ And I just can’t see myself leaving it. I love this stuff…This is just a great setting. And here they feel like your family. You don’t do that on TV. I’m sorry. You just don’t. You just sit there and pontificate. Some guys are great at it. Tucker Carlson? Genius Bill O’Reilly? The best ever. But you sit there and pontificate who falls in love with that? Nobody.”

Mike Soltys: ‘The Future is Still Bright for ESPN’

If you have worked in sports media for any part of the last four decades, chances are you have dealt with Mike Soltys. He is the second-longest tenured employee at ESPN. The VP of Corporate Communications learned in May that he had been laid off after 43 years with the network.

“I started senior year at UConn, so my entire adult life has been here in Bristol,” he told Dennis House on WTNH-TV’s This Week in Connecticut on Sunday.

The local news magazine show did a feature on Soltys and the ongoing layoffs at ESPN and its parent company, Disney.

House told the audience that Soltys had been integral to the show and other media outlets being able to work with ESPN over the years. Soltys joked that he had so many contacts that the morning news broke that he was being let go, he was in a bit of an awkward position.

“The morning that my round of layoffs was announced, I heard from all sorts of media looking for comment because that’s who they’ve called during previous rounds of layoffs and I got to send them to some of my colleagues. So that was particularly awkward.”

Despite the recent moves and ongoing challenges to the media industry, Mike Soltys has nothing bad to say about ESPN. He says the network will be just fine without him. 

“I think the future still is bright for ESPN,” he said. “It still goes back to that basic premise that we’re providing sports all the time and people are still looking for sports all the time. Where there’s a streaming universe and everything else, we’ve shown it that we can do multiple cable channels, we can do broadcast, we can do streaming, we can do social. You know? We can do all that. So I think that the future still is bright.”

He added that his job has put him in some truly enviable positions. He has attended World Cup openers, visited the White House, and led every Connecticut governor since Lowell Weicker on tours of the network’s Bristol campus.

“I feel that I’ve, every year, had more experiences than a lot of people get in a lifetime.”

Tiki Barber Gets Promotion For CBS NFL Broadcasts

Everything is coming up Tiki in New York! Not only will he move into one of the most coveted roles in all of sports radio next month, but Andrew Marchand reports that Tiki Barber is getting a bigger role at CBS this football season.

The former Giants running back will work a full season of games for CBS. It is an increase from years past, when he has been an analyst in the booth on just a limited schedule.

Barber has been paired with Tom McCarthy for the last two seasons. Prior to that, he worked with Beth Mowins. There is no word yet on who his partner will be in 2023.

CBS is making new plans for its part-time booth. Good Morning Football co-host Jason McCourty will take over Barber’s old role as analyst. Marchand reports that McCourty wowed CBS executives last season by calling games for Westwood One on radio with Ian Eagle.

Just like in the Barber house, the McCourty home has been full of good media news lately. Last month, NBC announced that Jason’s twin brother Devin would added to the cast of Football Night in America.
