Angelo Cataldi Bans Michael Irvin From WIP Morning Show After Cowboy Comments

The Philadelphia Eagles are on a roll this season, and 94WIP morning man Angelo Cataldi is not accepting criticisms of his team, and former Cowboy Michael Irvin is now in the crosshairs.

Irvin caught the ire of Cataldi after comments he made on First Take Monday about the greatness of the Dallas Cowboys.

“Earlier in the year, I featured comments made by Michael Irvin, then had him on the show and kissed his ass” Cataldi said. “Michael Irvin is a moron. Michael Irvin is a blithering idiot, and I will now prove it to you. ‘Oh my god, they won 40-3. Oh my god, let me start kissing the Cowboys ass again.’ Listen to Michael Irvin on ESPN yesterday.”

The show then played a clip of Irvin saying the Cowboys played a near perfect game, that showcased the best of their abilities, which saw the animated Irvin shouting in praise.

“Guy’s a moron. After calling the Eagles a dynasty in the offseason, he has changed his mind now. And guess who the best team is to him? You’re a moron, Michael Irvin! So I hereby decree that Michael Irvin is banned from the WIP Morning Show.”

“For the next two months,” co-host Rhea Hughes joked, alluding to Cataldi’s upcoming retirement.

“No! He’s done! Wait a minute,” Cataldi chuckled. “She’s right. She got me. For the next two months he’s banned, and then after that, all bets are off. And if he calls me at home, I’m not taking it!”

Frank Frangie Prepared 20 Minutes of “Blowout Material” For Ohio State/Maryland Broadcast

1010XL afternoon host Frank Frangie had the opportunity to work as the play-by-play announcer for the Ohio State/Maryland game for Touchdown Radio Productions over the weekend, and discussed his preparation for the game on his show Monday.

Frangie serves as the radio voice of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but the franchise had its bye week last Sunday, and was available to work for Touchdown Radio.

“I had the Ohio State/Maryland game, and I was so worried about a blowout and K.C. Jones — the former center from Miami who did the game with me and was on a couple of those Broncos Super Bowl teams — we had about 20 minutes of blowout material prepared,” Frangie said. “So much so that we almost went through it — almost rehearsed it — because I was convinced we were looking at 35-10 at the half. That’s just the way the Ohio State games go.”

Luckily for Frangie, and listeners/viewers of the game, it was a back-and-forth affair that saw Ohio State secure a late touchdown to extend a lead to 43-30.

“It was a hell of a game,” Frangie concluded.

Charles Barkley recently joked on Inside The NBA that the network should remove the remaining games on its schedule featuring the Los Angeles Lakers. On WEEI‘s Merloni, Fauria, & Mego Monday, the crew wondered if the NBA actually had flex scheduling, and if not, they needed to implement it.

“Charles Barkley doesn’t wanna watch the Lakers anymore,” Lou Merloni said. “He wants them off primetime.”

“He’s got a point!,” Christian Fauria said. “It’s too late now. Can they flex NBA games?”

“No, they can’t flex NBA games,” Merloni rebutted.

“They need to,” Fauria joked. “Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, you’ve got the Lakers and whoever.”

“The NBA needs Lebron, but they should put in some more Sacramento Kings games,” Merloni joked, piggybacking off Barkley’s comments.

Dave Portnoy Reveals Back-And-Forth With New York Times Reporter Who Claimed He ‘Did Not Provide Answers’

A story from The New York Times centered around “aging casino company” — Penn National Gaming — and its relationship with “degenerate gambler” — Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy — caught the eye of the face of the online outlet after the claim that he “didn’t provide answers”.

In the story, Steel claims “Penn and Barstool executives did not respond to repeated messages. Mr. Portnoy did not provide answers.” Portnoy brought the receipts to Twitter with a video of all of the correspondence he had with Times writer Emily Steel.

The alleged conversation takes place sporadically from May through November, with Portnoy offering to meet face-to-face with Steel for an interview that is mutually audio and video recorded, which Steel declines. She offered to meet Portnoy in New York for an audio recorded interview, which he declined, saying the interview needed to take place in Miami, because “I’m not running around to accommodate you at the 11th hour.”

He added “You waited till (sic) your hit piece was done and now you just need to say you gave me a fair chance to speak even though you have no interest in the truth and your article is already written”.

Peter Burns Apologizes To Ben Watson After On-Air Joke About Wife

SEC Network host Peter Burns has publicly apologized to analyst Ben Watson and his wife Kirsten for an off-color joke he made during halftime of Saturday’s Florida/Vanderbilt game on the network.

While joking about Watson’s suit being lighter in color than everyone else’s on set, Watson said he didn’t care what the other hosts thought about his suit, just as long as his wife thought he looked nice, and asked her to “send the text” letting him know he looked good. Burns quipped “that’s not the text she sent me” before going to commercials. When the show returned, Burns and Watson were not on set, and the former NFL tight end insinuated the pair had a strong disagreement during the break.

Later that evening, Burns tweeted a picture of the pair with the caption #Friendship, which Watson retweeted saying Burns needed to publicly apologize. He did that Monday evening.

In a tweet, Burns said “the truth is that I crossed the line”, noting that Watson “couldn’t have handled it better with his humor and class”.

An ESPN representative had previously told OutKick the entire situation was a joke, calling it a “performance bit”, adding Watson “100% deserves an Emmy nomination”.

Clay Travis: Donald Trump Returning to Twitter May Benefit Democrats

Unlike so many pundits who have expressed outrage that Twitter’s Elon Musk has reinstated former President Donald Trump’s account, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton said Monday they’re excited about the prospect of Trump tweeting again. 

Musk reactivated Trump’s account over the weekend after more than 15 million users polled voted for his reinstatement. Trump’s account was banned following the Jan 6th riots. 

“There are huge implications to this (reinstatement) and a lot of variables at play,” Sexton said. “The one thing is that we know that Trump has TRUTH social. The problem is there’s going to end up being one dominant platform and then some other platforms that are more niche.” 

Despite the reinstatement, Trump has not confirmed whether he will return to Twitter. 

“What Elon Musk is doing right now, is showing true bravery,” said Travis. “First of all, he put up a poll to allow people to vote on whether Trump should be allowed back on the platform. I’m not sure if Trump being back on Twitter if he decides to reclaim his account is going to be beneficial to him at all. In fact, I think it may benefit Democrats.”

Vince Coglianese: CBS News Is ‘Melting Down’

More than two years after the New York Post broke the Hunter Biden laptop story, CBS News said they have confirmed the authenticity of the story. 

News Talk 105.9 WMAL host Vince Coglianese said Monday that CBS News appears to be “melting down.” Coglianese said several media outlets knew within days that the Hunter Biden laptop story was significant, especially as his father was running to become the President of the United States. 

“Organizations like the Daily Caller and the New York Post had authenticated it immediately,” said Coglianese. “The media has come along begrudgingly over the last couple of years and said it could be kind of real I guess.” 

Two years ago, former President Donald Trump told CBS’ Lesley Stahl on “60 Minutes” the Hunter Biden laptop was real and should be covered by the media. 

According to the New York Post, on Monday CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge reported that she received a copy of Hunter Biden’s hard drive from former Delaware computer repairman John Paul Mac Isaac. She also said she spoke to a scientist who said the hard drive appeared to be real. 

“CBS News finally signed off on the ability for Catherine Herridge to say this stuff in public,” stated Coglianese. “It’s hard to believe that it’s because of Herridge kind of doggedly staying after this and her saying we have to get a report out that they finally aired this.”

Blaze TV hosts are reacting to the ongoing controversy involving Twitter. Last week, CBS News said it was halting its activity on the platform amid layoffs and resignations at the company. 

Jeff Fisher joined Pat Gray and Steve Burguiere aka Stu, on the “Glenn Beck Show ” Monday to discuss some of the latest developments involving Twitter including owner Elion Musk banning conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. 

Burguiere said it’s strange to see how left-leaning pundits have demonized Elon Musk following his acquisition of Twitter. 

“This guy should be a liberal icon,” stated Burguiere. “We lose sight of this because he says things about free speech that I guess is exclusively a right-wing issue.” 

Burguiere said that Musk should be able to do anything that he wants with Twitter considering the amount of money he invested to purchase the company. 

“This whole thing that he’s the icon of free speech, I don’t know if that’s true,” added Burguiere. 

Musk announced recently that conspiracy theorist Alex Jones received a permanent ban on Twitter for his involvement in denying that the Sandy Hook massacre took place.

“He (Musk) has been a hard no on Alex no matter what,” said Fisher. 

“He has apologized for it,” Burguiere said. “He’s also been sued for billions of dollars over it.” 

“The thing about Alex Jones is that some of us don’t like what he said,” Gray remarked. “But, who cares, that’s what you call free speech.”

Matt Volk to Exit BetQL, Mitch Rosen and Danny Freisinger Earn Internal Promotions

Behind the scenes changes are coming to the BetQL network. The Audacy owned sports betting operation will have different leadership in place to guide day to day strategy and execution entering 2023.

In an internal note sent out earlier by Audacy EVP of Programming Jeff Sottolano, it was revealed that SVP of Sports Matthew Volk will be leaving the company. Volk has been offered a C-level position back home in Boston which allows him to return to his first love, sports television.  

Sottolano said of Volk’s exit, “It is with mixed emotions that I share with you that Matt Volk will be leaving Audacy at the end of this year. I hired Matt less than two years ago primarily to oversee the build out of our BetQL Network. He has done exactly that, helped cement a long term investment from BetMGM in the network and led the successful launch – surrounded by a talented team – of our 2400Sports podcast network this year.”

To help fill the void, Sottolano shared that Danny Freisinger will be elevated to VP of Sports and have operational oversight of the 2400Sports podcast network. The former 95.7 The Game Assistant Program Director and ESPN 1320 PD will also lead the company’s sports editorial and video content teams and team with Sports Format VP Spike Eskin on new multi-platform content development for internal and external distribution platforms. Sottolano added that 2400Sports VP/Executive Producer Lena Glaser will remain in charge of prestige/national podcast shows, talent and content development.

Additionally, 670 The Score PD Mitch Rosen will be elevated from Director of Operations to VP of the BetQL Network. Part of his responsibility will include overseeing BetQL Brand Manager Andrew Williams and leading the network’s team of talent, producers and writers. Sottolano also said shared that Rosen will work closely with Mike Dee to grow the network’s sports book relationships and increase external distribution of the network. His involvement with BetQL will not affect his status as The Score’s brand manager.
