0

Amazon Prime Video is stepping into the sports talk game.

The streaming platform is launching a 12-hour daily schedule of sports talk shows. From 8:00 AM-8:00 PM ET, the network will feature shows hosted by Cari Champion, Master Tesfatsion, and Rennae Stubbs, among others.

“We are dipping our toe. We’re testing and learning, but we are very excited about it,” Amazon Vice President of Global Sports Video Marie Donoghue told Andrew Marchand of The New York Post.

From 8:00-10:00 AM ET, Madelyn Burke and Ben Lyons will host Bonjour Sports Talk. The show will also repeat and air from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM. The Cari Champion Show will air from 12:00-2:00 PM. Eitan Levine and Drexton Clemons will host Sports Talk Game Breakers from 2:00-4:00 PM before Tesfatsion will host From the Desk of Master T and Stubbs hosts The Power Hour each for one hour. The Greatest Hour of All-Time will showcase the best of each day’s programming from 6:00-7:00 PM, followed by The Backup Plan hosted by Hana Ostaapchuk and Jason Spells until 8:00 PM.

“We want to push the talent and the producers to take this approach and have more deeper and interesting conversations,” Donoghue said. “Nothing is set in stone so we will iterate and adapt, but that’s how we want to go out.”

Marchand reports Michael Davies, the Executive Producer of Jeopardy! and founder of Men in Blazers, has been tabbed to lead the new content for Amazon Prime Video.

Stephen A. Smith Missing First Take After Second Bout With COVID

0

ESPN First Take panelist Stephen A. Smith has shared he has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time.

Smith jokingly shared his displeasure about missing the show while Michael Irvin and Dan Orlovsky take the reins while he’s out.

“S.A., I hope you’re resting,” host Molly Qerim said. “We miss you and we will do our best to hold it down.”

“Feel better, Stephen A., but I’m not going to let the moment pass,” Orlovsky joked. “It’s a Monday morning and I’m in your seat. You talk about upgrades, I flew first class (from London), I had a lay down seat laid down like this thinking of Stephen A., and now I’m in his seat? My goodness.”

Last year, Smith tested positive for the virus before developing worsening symptoms that required hospitalization.

“I had a 103-degree fever every night,” Smith said on First Take in January of this year. “Woke up with chills and a pool of sweat. Headaches were massive. Coughing profusely. And it got to a point that right before New Year’s Eve, I was in the hospital New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day. That’s how I brought in the New Year.

“I had pneumonia in both lungs. My liver was bad. And it ravaged me to the point where even now I have to monitor my volume. Got to get in the gym every day, walk before you run, and work your way back because I’m still not 100 percent with my lungs. But I’m Covid negative and all of that stuff, and I’m on the road to recovery.”

Boomer Esiason: ‘I Should Give Quarterback Class On How To Handle Media’

0

During an appearance on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI, WFAN morning host Boomer Esiason joked he needs to give quarterbacks a class on what to say to the media.

The former New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback was asked what he made of the comments from Jets quarterback Zach Wilson gave to the Patriots after losing 22-17 Sunday.

“I think, Courtney (Cox), I need to give a class on Quarterback 101 and how to handle the media,” Esiason said. “Because when you have such a disastrous game as he did yesterday, you get up there in front of the media and you take accountability for that. And you say — and he tried to do this and he kind of expanded his thoughts a little bit and he just made it worse — ‘I made bad reads, I made bad plays, I made bad decisions, I cost my team the game’.

“And the reason I say that’s important is because in today’s day and age of social media, whatever you say is gonna go viral. No matter what. Especially when you play as poorly as he did. That means your teammates, your coaches, your owner, everyone involved in your organization sees how you react in the face of adversity.”

Esiason would be as qualified as any to give quarterbacks lessons in working with the media. After ending his playing career in 1997, he has gone on to work as a game analyst with ABC and Westwood One for Monday Night Football, the Super Bowl, and also has worked as a studio analyst for The NFL Today and Inside the NFL.

Brian Windhorst Thinks Aggregation Has Changed His Dealings With NBA Players

0

Sometimes in this business, one quote can stand out from an interview subject and it can potentially get taken out of context of what the entire statement was. For ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst, he understands what an NBA player can go through with having their words taken out of context.

Windhorst was a guest on the That’s What She Said with Sarah Spain podcast and he said having what he says aggregated by newspaper or blogs or websites has changed the way he goes about interviewing NBA players.

“It’s completely changed the way I deal with NBA players because I now am way, way, way more sensitive to what can happen to their words and totally guilty of it many times in my career of pulling one thing the player says out of six paragraphs and making it a headline. Probably will be guilty of it again, although I really try to avoid it.”

Windhorst understands that his readers might not want to read a long quote from a player, but from his own personal experiences, he has to be careful with judging what is important news.

“Sometimes, it’s warranted because some of that is news judgment. Sometimes, you listen to a player answer 11 questions and his answer on the 7th question could be really important. There is all these shades of grey in there. It’s happened to me so many times that I can now understand what someone like LeBron goes through. I admit I have aggregated LeBron. It wasn’t called that, but I have absolutely been guilty of that. I’m way more cognizant of trying to keep the context. If a player answers a question in 200 words, you can’t put 200 words there. The reader will be like I can’t take it. There’s a nuance there.”

As Windhorst told Spain, he knows that a site such as this one will probably use what he says from the interview and he knows that whenever he does an interview, there’s a chance it will happen again and it’s changed how he has looked at the industry as a whole.

“There’s a chance that something that I said during this podcast will get aggregated that will cause me a headache. I know when I’m asked to do interviews, I know that I’m like ‘Well, probably going to face a blowback for something I said here…It’s changed the way I’ve looked at the business.”

Omaha Productions Expanding ‘Places’ Franchise Outside of Sports

0

Omaha Productions has seen its partnership with ESPN continue to grow. It’s “Places” franchise is growing, as well, as Peyton Manning has revealed the franchise will expand to avenues outside of sports.

In an interview with Axios, Manning, founder of Omaha Productions, said the popular franchise will add shows who “have walked the walk”, including Luke Bryan, LL Cool J, and Admiral William McRaven.

The “Places” concept began with the Peyton’s Places, as the former NFL quarterback visits some of football’s most famous sites, and interviews football’s biggest newsmakers and its most interesting figures. The show then expanded to feature a show with his brother, Eli, called Eli’s Places. The portfolio now includes shows with Abby Wombach, Vince Carter, Ronda Rousey, and David Ortiz using the Places moniker.

“The best thing about Omaha is helping other people tell stories,” says Manning. “I’m proud of Peyton’s Places, but I’m even prouder of shows like ‘Abby’s Places’ that give other athletes a voice.”

Manning did not mention whether the new shows with Bryan, LL Cool J, and McRaven would air on a new network or would continue to be offered on ESPN+.

It’s the latest in a wide ranging expansion for the production company. In September, the NFL announced it had partnered with Omaha Productions to re-shape the league’s Pro Bowl week.

Season three of Peyton’s Places is slated to premiere on ESPN+ on Sunday.

Toucher & Rich Torch Caller Asking If He’s Listening to WFAN

0

A discussion about the similarities and differences between New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones and New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson angered a caller into Toucher & Rich this morning. The Boston sports radio duo didn’t stand idly by as the criticism rolled in.

“Is this WFAN in New York or is this 98.5 The Sports Hub?,” the caller asked. “I’m tired of hearing Fred Toucher talk about the New York Jets. We don’t care about the Jets, we don’t care about their growth or lack of it for 50 something years. Why don’t you talk about the 8-1 Boston Bruins. Because that’s a Boston team and that’s something positive.”

“We’re gonna talk about the Boston Bruins the day after a Patriots game and the Bruins didn’t play. That’s exactly what we’re gonna do,” Toucher sarcastically said. “That’s what we’re gonna focus on the entire morning, and drive our entire audience screaming into the night.”

“Let’s do WFAN then,” Rich Shertenlieb said, in a high-pitched New York accent, reminiscent of Chris “Mad Dog” Russo. “‘Big tennis tournament in Cincinnati. I think Nadal coming off a knee injury might be able to play’.”

“Talk Boston Bruins,” Toucher continued. “I pitched that in the meeting and got shot down.”

“Juxtaposing two second-year quarterbacks who just played each other the day before,” Fred Toucher continued. “We wanna skip that. It is very irresponsible and selfish on my part for wanting to talk about the development of two quarterbacks. Considering that’s what’s been written about. Everywhere. ‘Talk about the Bruins’. Go to Florida and just finish your life out. Go listen to the Florida station. You’re not making me any money.”

NewsNation Sees Bump From Kanye West Conversation

0

The rapper Ye, previously known as Kanye West, had made the media rounds throughout the month of October, commenting on everything from his ex-wife Kim Kardashian to his views on politics and abortion to his clothing line at the recent Paris Fashion Week where he had his models wear “White Lives Matter” T-shirts.

It was his antisemitic comments that have drawn the most attention, causing Ye to lose his lucrative deals with several big companies that, in total, cost him at least a billion dollars.

Ye’s first major TV interview in this media run was back on Oct. 6 on Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight. As BNM had previously reported, that edition drew 3.587 million total viewers — it was that week’s most-watched cable news telecast in prime time; its 496,000 in the key 25-54 demographic was that week’s runner-up cable news figure in prime time.

The second part of Carlson’s interview aired on Friday, Oct. 7, which drew 2.831 million total viewers including 325,000 adults 25-54, according to Nielsen Media Research. Of all the cable news programs for the week ending Oct. 9, it ranked 16th (in viewers) and 21st (in demo).

On Monday, Oct. 17, NewsNation’s Cuomo also featured Ye, where he doubled down on his controversial comments. Oddly, the rapper conducted his discussion remotely from inside his car, which even had its host Chris Cuomo and other NewsNation staffers allegedly disappointed with the spot. Cuomo drew 129,000 viewers including 22,000 adults 25-54 — the program’s top figures for the week (Oct. 17-21).

As an aside, Dan Abrams Live actually topped Cuomo as NewsNation’s top program of the week among adults 25-54; Abrams averaged 16,000 for Oct. 17-21, to Cuomo’s 15,000.

In financial news, by the closing bell on Friday, Oct. 21, it marked the third consecutive week the Dow Jones experienced growth. It’s Wall Street’s longest winning streak in 2022. Many blue chip stocks gained within that time, including Exxon Mobil, health insurer Cigna, and Big Pharma stock Eli Lilly; these specific stocks all reached new record highs.

Seeing an even longer streak is Fox Business Network, which topped CNBC for the 23rd consecutive week in viewers for the weekday period of 9am-5pm. For Oct. 17-21, FBN averaged 248,000 business day viewers; CNBC drew 198,000. FBN’s Kudlow led business news with 335,000 viewers — the No. 1 business program with viewers for 34 of the past 35 weeks. The network’s morning show Varney & Co. was runner-up with 302,000 viewers. FBN also nabbed six of the top ten shows in business news with total viewers.

In addition, as noted in the weekly averages below, FBN also bested CNBC in total day viewers for the week, which also accounts for evening and weekend programming — where CNBC was also home to reruns of Shark Tank and some sporting events like Premier League soccer and MotoGP motorcycle racing.

Jesse Watters: Democratic Media Is Ignoring Crime

0

Fox News host Jesse Watters criticized media outlets for not reporting crime except when in effect high-profile people like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“The Jesse Watters Primetime” host reacted to the news Friday.

Where has the media and the Democrats been while thousands of Americans have been attacked? People are being hit with hammers every day,” Watters said via Fox News Digital.

Few details have been released about the attack on Paul Pelosi other than he was reportedly struck with a hammer during a break-in at his San Francisco residence.

“People are being pushed into subways, slashed, shot in cold blood, but the media focuses on this one single crime to pin it on Republicans? Come on. The Democrats defunded the police in San Francisco,” he said.

“The Democrats want to send social workers to welfare checks instead of cops. If they had sent a social worker here, both Paul and the social worker would probably be dead,” he added.

Joe Pags Unsure Why Media Blaming Donald Trump For Paul Pelosi Attack

0

The husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Paul, is expected to make a full recovery after allegedly being attacked with a hammer by an intruder in his San Francisco residence Friday.

News media reacted to the incident with an analysis of possible motives. Police have identified the attacker as David DePape.

Texas-based syndicated radio host Joe Pags said Friday that he was confused by people trying to blame the incident on former President Donald Trump.

“I’ve seen some so-called news outlets try to say he was a Trump guy,” Pags said. “The picture of his (DePape’s) house where the neighborhood calls it a hippy house, has a pride flag and he’s married to a nudist, and they have a bunch of nude kids.”

Pags reiterated that DePape is the furthest thing that you could get from a “Trump-supporting MAGA guy.”

“He’s none of that,” said Pags. “He’s somebody that you might expect would be in Nancy Pelosi’s corner. My wonderment is what did she (Pelosi) do to make him want to go to her house?”

According to Bloomberg, DePape broke into the house and started screaming, “Where is Nancy?” Aerial views Friday around the Pelosi home showed a perimeter secured by a wall.

“How did he get in?” Pags asked. “I’ve heard reports that police arrived because of a wellness check. “I’m not making any allegations, but you think there’s a little more to the story.”
