Michael Irvin To Host ‘The White House’ Podcast on Netflix

0

NFL Hall of Famer Michael Irvin is taking his on-air presence to a new level with the launch of a sports talk podcast on Netflix. Titled The White House with Michael Irvin, the series will premiere January 19, marking Netflix’s latest entry into the growing world of sports podcasts.

“I am excited about this new venture with Netflix and the opportunity to blend elements of traditional television with the evolving world of podcasting,” Irvin said in a statement. “This project allows us to take what worked in the old format and reimagine it for today’s audience.”

Irvin, who won three Super Bowl rings with the Dallas Cowboys and a National Championship at the University of Miami, is familiar with the platform. He recently appeared in the Netflix docuseries America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys. He also served as an analyst during NFL Christmas Gameday 2025. The podcast represents his first long-form hosting project for Netflix.

The White House will release two episodes per week and feature a rotating roster of co-hosts. The lineup includes former NFL All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who also serves as the show’s producer. Episodes will cover game analysis, current sports news, and candid commentary, with no topic considered off-limits.

The podcast’s title draws inspiration from Irvin’s own history. During the Cowboys’ 1990s dynasty, Irvin’s nickname for his Dallas-area residence, which he dubbed “The White House,” became a gathering spot for teammates.

“We chose the name intentionally,” Irvin explained. “In a crowded media landscape, recognition matters — and few names carry the same immediate weight. For better or worse, ‘The White House’ represents power, decision-making, and cultural relevance. It’s a name people recognize and are compelled to engage with.”

Irvin also described the project as an extension of his personal philosophy. “This vision is grounded in my spirituality,” he said. “While the name may surprise some, I believe in not living by the fear of yesterday but living by the fuel of tomorrow.”

Brandon Marshall’s athlete-led production company is overseeing the podcast, with most episodes filmed at its Miami-based studio. Netflix partnered with Marshall’s team to provide access and insider perspective. The goal is to offer a unique voice within the crowded sports media landscape.

The White House with Michael Irvin is Netflix’s first original sports talk podcast, joining a library that includes top sports shows such as Pardon My Take, The Bill Simmons Podcast, and Spittin’ Chiclets.

Fans can tune in starting January 19 to hear Irvin’s signature energy and insights alongside his guest lineup. The show promises unfiltered conversation and analysis from across the sports world.

Craig Carton: Mike Tomlin Should Replace Ryan Clark on ESPN

0

As speculation swirls over where former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin might land next, WFAN host Craig Carton offered a bold suggestion Wednesday: replace former NFL player and ESPN analyst Ryan Clark with Tomlin.

On The Craig Carton Show via SportsGrid, Carton did not mince words.

“Mike Tomlin could save us from an insufferable race baiter on TV. I would fire Ryan Clark and replace him with Mike Tomlin,” Carton said. He added that such a move would sidestep accusations of racial bias, noting, “Ryan Clark can’t claim racism… He’d have to eat it because you’re replacing him with a black guy.”

Carton, known for his provocative commentary, also reflected on his evolving opinion of Clark. He noted once Clark broke onto the scene, Carton says he made the attempt to network with Clark to get to know the former Steelers safety. However, his opinion of Clark turned quickly due to his approach to content that turned off the WFAN host.

“I thought Ryan Clark was a rising star. Then unfortunately, he made a decision…where he became a race guy,” he said. “Unfortunately, a lot of things that a lot of mistakes are about race, and I can’t stand that black or white. We got to the point where I find him insufferable now.”

Regarding Tomlin, Carton praised the former Steelers coach’s on-field communication skills and personality, though he admitted uncertainty about the precise television role that would suit him.

“I’ve never met Mike Tomlin. I’ve seen the same stuff you’ve seen — postgame press conferences. I think he’s got a great personality… But I’m not sure which role he’d be better at,” Carton said on the many options that could await Tomlin with networks.

Tomlin, who stepped down after 19 seasons with the Steelers, has been linked to multiple networks interested in his servces. Fox reportedly is the frontrunner if he should pivot to broadcasting. Fox’s interest is particularly strong, with Tomlin seen as a natural fit for FOX NFL Sunday. The network’s flagship studio show currently features Michael Strahan, Rob Gronkowski, Howie Long, and Terry Bradshaw.

0

Beasley Media Group has appointed Matt Scarano as Vice President and Market Manager of its Detroit operations, the company announced Wednesday. Scarano will oversee the cluster’s stations, including WRIF, WCSX, WDMK-FM, and WMGC-FM, guiding both strategic growth and daily operations. He officially assumes the role on January 14.

Scarano brings more than 20 years of experience in radio and media management. He brings a record of driving revenue, expanding market presence, and building high-performing teams. His leadership is widely recognized for combining operational discipline with a focus on community engagement.

“Matt is a proven, results-driven leader with a deep understanding of today’s evolving media landscape,” said Brian Beasley, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Beasley Media Group. “His operational expertise, sales leadership, and commitment to community make him an outstanding choice to lead our Detroit market. We are excited to welcome him to the Beasley team.”

Prior to joining Beasley, Scarano served as Region President for iHeartMedia in Chicago, overseeing programming, sales, marketing, and engineering. He managed multimillion-dollar budgets and implemented sales strategies that strengthened audience engagement and exceeded revenue targets.

Scarano also played a key role in contract negotiations with advertisers, vendors, and talent, ensuring compliance with FCC regulations.

“I’m honored to join Beasley Media Group and lead the Detroit team,” Scarano said. “Beasley’s commitment to local communities, innovation, and strong partnerships aligns perfectly with my values. I look forward to building on the market’s success and delivering meaningful results for audiences, advertisers, and community partners.”

Earlier in his career, Scarano held senior sales and operational roles at ABC Radio/The Walt Disney Company, Big League Broadcasting, Cox Broadcasting, Jacor Broadcasting, and Atlanta’s WZGC-FM. Across these positions, he consistently drove revenue growth and fostered long-term client partnerships.

Tony Romo Responds to Online Reaction Following Bills, Jaguars Broadcast on CBS Sports

0

CBS Sports analyst Tony Romo says he doesn’t let online criticism affect his work, even after drawing backlash for his commentary during Sunday’s Buffalo Bills-Jacksonville Jaguars game.

Romo, speaking Monday on SiriusXM’s Schein On Sports via Mad Dog Sports Radio, acknowledged that being on the air comes with scrutiny. Even in key moments when many on the CBS Sports crew were dealing with illness.

“Anytime you’re in a position like we are. We’re on the air for three and a half hours. You’re always trying to do the best you can and everything, and there’s always going to be moments where there’s always great stuff. Then other stuff. It’s just part of being in your position,” he said.

The retired Dallas Cowboys quarterback joined CBS Sports in 2017 and quickly became known for his predictive play-calling and insightful analysis. While his early years in the broadcast booth were widely praised, some viewers have recently questioned aspects of his style.

During the Bills-Jaguars game, critics on social media called out Romo for making unusual noises and uninspired calls during key moments, sharing clips and commentary to highlight their complaints. Despite the criticism, Romo emphasized that the fun of sports broadcasting comes from the work itself, not the reactions.

“You just go back to work and you do a great job. That’s the fun part about this. It’s sports, and it makes it fun. We’re just trying to do make everyone enjoy the show and learn a little bit and have a great time. So to me, it’s what makes sports amazing. It’s fun,” he said.

Romo’s commentary style—once celebrated for providing a near-telepathic view of on-field action—has always been somewhat polarizing. Fans and analysts alike noted his ability to predict plays, but that same predictive approach can draw criticism when calls don’t align with viewer expectations.

CBS Sports has relied heavily on Romo’s expertise for marquee NFL matchups, pairing him with veteran play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz. His approach blends technical insight with storytelling, and Romo said he focuses on preparation and execution rather than public opinion.

Elise Stefanik Joins Growing List of Those Opposed to Nexstar Media Group-TEGNA Merger

0

After Newsmax formally asked the FCC to block the proposed merger of Nexstar Media Group and TEGNA, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) has joined the growing list of those opposing the move.

In late December, Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy penned a letter to the FCC formally petitioning the commission to block the move. Ruddy argued that the proposed merger “violates the law and creates an unprecedented concentration of power in the hands of one broadcaster.”

Newsmax’s focus on its opposition is that the current ownership limits make a single entity owning enough stations to reach more than 39% of the U.S. TV households illegal. Should the proposed merger with TEGNA go through, Nexstar Media Group would reach nearly 80% of all households.

“This merger would create an unprecedented and dangerous consolidation within the broadcast TV industry, giving them immense control over local news and political news coverage,” Newsmax CEO Chris Ruddy — who signed the filing with the FCC for the network — said in a statement.

“This merger is no better than others the FCC has already blocked,” the filing from Newsmax concludes. “The Commission should reject the proposed transaction because it violates the law, will harm competition, and will damage the public interest.”

Meanwhile, Congressional Republicans are joining Ruddy and others in their opposition to the merger. Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) sent a letter to FCC Chair Brendan Carr in December, sharing similar sentiments.

“Allowing these station groups and networks, many of which have biases towards liberal viewpoints, to consolidate would give them the ability to control and coordinate local news against Republicans,” Stefanik wrote. “Greater consolidation would also increase TV subscription bills for consumers via increased retransmission fees at a time when many American families are struggling to pay their bills.

“Consolidation would also end localism in smaller media markets in favor of national talking points provided by corporations based in major cities. The FCC was created with a mandate to promote localism, competition, and diversity of voices. Altering the statutory ownership cap or approving mergers that increase local market concentration directly undermines that mandate.”

Stefanik continued by sharing her belief that allowing broadcast groups to surpass the 39% ownership cap is a net negative for consumers and the broadcast space — in spite of increased competition and an uneven playing field compared to big tech firms.

“While I recognize concerns about the growing power of large tech companies to shape the media
environment, the answer to this growth is not to spur significant consolidation in the broadcast TV sector,” Stefanik wrote. “Expanding the reach of the large broadcast groups or allowing these groups to own multiple stations in one market will only further limit competition, increase costs, and narrow the range of viewpoints available to the public.

“Broadcast licenses are public property and are intended to serve local communities and the public interest. Both raising this cap and approving this merger is not in the public interest of Americans, or within the authority of the FCC. Keeping the cap in place, and Nexstar and TEGNA separate, will protect local and conservative voices and keep costs from rising rapidly due to decreased competition.”

Washington Nationals Partner With MLB In Shift Away From MASN Production

0

The Washington Nationals have ended their nearly two-decade broadcast partnership with MASN and join Major League Baseball’s in-house production network, a move that would give the team full control over its local broadcasts for the first time since relocating from Montreal in 2005.

The Nationals shared the news Wednesday via social media. They will forgo renewing their contract with MASN when it expires next month.

The team now joins six other clubs under MLB’s production umbrella, including the San Diego Padres, Cleveland Guardians, Seattle Mariners, Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Colorado Rockies.

“Today’s announcement represents a new chapter for Washington Nationals baseball,” said Managing Principal Owner Mark D. Lerner. “We are excited to have already begun work with the talented team at MLB. The collaboration is off to a strong start as we work together to elevate the viewing experience with world-class broadcasts across television and streaming.”

Under the league’s model, games are produced and distributed directly by MLB, with in-market streaming available. Teams also negotiate directly with cable and satellite providers to ensure linear broadcast coverage. Additionally, select games may be picked up by over-the-air television partners.

For the Nationals, the move represents a shift away from MASN, co-owned by the Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles. The relationship with the network has been the subject of decades-long disputes over rights fees and ownership stakes. This has led to repeated legal battles.

Leaving the network gives the Nationals greater flexibility and revenue control. While allowing them to tailor the broadcast experience to modern viewing habits.

“Partnering with MLB offers us several new opportunities that will greatly improve the on-air product. Including technological enhancements, the ability to work more closely with our broadcasters, and create added opportunities for our valued corporate partners,” said Lerner. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer the kind of presentation that our dedicated fans across the entire Mid-Atlantic region deserve.”

Fans within the Nationals home television markets can watch Nationals.TV on cable and satellite television or stream live through Nationals.TV. Information on cable and satellite providers, including specific channel locations, will be announced at a later date.

Apple TV Announces New Documentary On Andre Agassi

0

Apple TV is turning its attention to one of the most compelling figures in sports history. The streaming service announced it has greenlit a multi-part documentary series chronicling the life and career of tennis icon Andre Agassi, sixteen years after the release of his acclaimed memoir, Open: An Autobiography.

The book has long been considered a landmark in sports literature. It is praised for its unflinching honesty and introspective look at fame, pressure, and identity.

The forthcoming documentary will explore Agassi’s rise from child prodigy to global superstar. It will also examine the personal struggles and contradictions that defined his journey. According to Apple, the series will offer an in-depth portrait of an American legend whose influence extended well beyond the tennis court.

The project will be directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Chris Smith, whose previous work includes Tiger King and American Movie. Smith will produce the series through his Library Films banner. He will do so alongside executive producers Stacy Smith and former professional tennis player Justin Gimelstob.

Agassi’s story has long been viewed as uniquely suited for long-form storytelling. A former world No. 1, Agassi won eight Grand Slam singles titles and an Olympic gold medal. He also became one of the most recognizable athletes of his era. At the same time, Open revealed a deeply conflicted competitor who openly discussed his dislike for the sport, battles with confidence, and the emotional toll of life in the public eye.

By revisiting that narrative in documentary form, Apple TV+ appears poised to expand on themes that resonated strongly with readers. The series also introduces Agassi’s story to a new generation of fans. It is expected to blend archival footage, personal interviews, and broader cultural context to examine how Agassi navigated fame, reinvention, and purpose.

Since launching in November 2019, the platform has positioned itself as a destination for high-end documentaries alongside its scripted programming. Apple TV+ was the first major streaming service to debut with an all-original lineup globally. The network has quickly built a reputation for award-winning content.

To date, Apple Original Films, series and documentaries have earned more than 680 wins and over 3,100 award nominations. The service is home to widely recognized hits such as Ted Lasso and The Studio, along with Oscar Best Picture winner CODA. Those successes have helped Apple TV+ stand out in an increasingly crowded streaming marketplace.

Agassi made his broadcasting debut last year with TNT’s French Open coverage, earning widespread praise for his analysis. Following the experience, Agassi explained he’s not interested in returning to broadcasting just to create “little insightful clips,” saying he prefers formats that allow for deeper conversation about the sport.

While a release date for the Agassi documentary has not been announced, the project adds to Apple’s growing slate of athlete-driven content. The series prioritizes depth over highlights.
