Murray State’s NPR affiliated radio station kicked off a four-part series documenting the impact of slavery in America. The first episode aired on Wednesday and highlighted a Black family learning about their connections to a plantation in Louisville.
The series which aired on WKMS radio is called “The Reckoning: Facing the Legacy of Slavery.” The series will evolve over the next couple of months with the last episode scheduled to air after the election.
Louisville, Kentucky, has been at the center of protests ever since the killing of Breonna Taylor.
The producer and host of the series is Dan Gediman, Loretta Williams is a Peabody award-winning reporter, producer, and editor who works on stories that delve into America’s cultural divides. Both Gediman and Williams have received awards for their work on similar shows dealing with inequality in American history.
“The Reckoning” traces the history and lasting impact of slavery and Jim Crow oppression in Kentucky, exploring many of the issues that have exploded into public consciousness throughout the country in 2020.
