CNBC’s Shepard Smith demanded that his network stop airing President Trump’s address that he sent out via Twitter on Wednesday. “Stop! Stop the tape,” said Smith. “That is not true, and we are not airing it.”
Trump told his supporters during a one-minute video that he felt their pain following “an election that was stolen from us.”
Smith condemned Trump for bringing up that narrative amid the chaos. “It’s the kind of rhetoric that has led us to this moment,” he said.
“We have to have peace, so go home,” Trump said. “We have to have peace, so go home,”
An unidentified woman was shot and killed inside the U.S. Capitol and multiple police officers were injured during the siege.
Washington D.C. officials imposed a curfew, and the entire D.C. National Guard was activated. The violence occurred as the Congress was in the early stages of conducting its Electoral College count.
Several Republicans dropped their plans to contest Joe Biden winning the election.
