Averi Harper Names New Deputy Political Director at ABC News

ABC News has announced a new deputy political director in its Washington bureau as Averi Harper will take over the position. Meanwhile, former deputy political director, MaryAlice Parks, will assume ABC’s weekend White House correspondent.

Harper came aboard ABC News in 2019 and worked as a campaign reporter covering presidential candidates like Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) during the Democratic primaries. Harper later made the transition to covering the Biden-Harris campaign, focusing on Vice President Harris.

Furthermore, Harper also covered George Floyd’s death, reporting from the funeral in Houston, speaking to Floyd’s high school friends, and contributed to the special Juneteenth: A Celebration of Overcoming. “A gifted reporter and storyteller and also a natural leader, and her talents will be invaluable in guiding our audience – and our political team – through this unprecedented moment in our nation’s political life,” Jonathan Greenberger, ABC News vice president, said.
