CBS has launched an investigation into its weekday show The Talk following a heated exchange between co-hosts Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood. The network cancelled its shows on Monday and Tuesday while the probe is ongoing.
Deadline reported Osborne became combative on Wednesday’s show during a discussion with Underwood about her support for former Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan.
“We are committed to a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace,” the network said in a statement. “All matters related to the Wednesday episode of “The Talk” are currently under internal review.”
Following Osborne’s statement about Morgan last week, Underwood said that “while you are standing by your friend, it appears that you are giving validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist.”
“I feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair, because I have a friend who many people think is racist, so that makes me a racist,” Osborne said.
Osbourne posted on Twitter an apology about the exchange to “anyone of colour that I offended and/or to anyone that feels confused or let down by what I said.”
