Tampa radio legend Tedd Webb is now in hospice care after he decided to stop undergoing kidney dialysis. Webb began his career as a DJ at WALT in Tampa in 1963 but is best known for his time at NewsRadio 970 WFLA.
Webb told the Tampa Bay Times that he could die within a week. “This wasn’t an easy decision for him to make,” Ruiz wrote, “and obviously no one wants to lose him, but there’s only so much one person can endure.”
Webb co-hosted the morning show on WFLA for 23 years before he retired in 2017. Thursday’s program will be dedicated to Webb, according to station management.
In 1999, Webb underwent a quadruple bypass operation and since then has struggled with congestive heart failure.
“I want people to know Tedd has impacted to call in and let Tedd know what he means to you,” said AM Tampa Bay co-host Aaron Jacobson who worked alongside Webb for eight years. “We hope he will be listening. Tell him how much you love him.”
Tampa City Councilman Guido Maniscalco will make a motion at Thursday’s meeting to honor Webb with a street sign.
