Bitker to Retire as Sports Anchor at KCBS-AM/FM

Steve Bitker is ending his 30 year run at KCBS-AM/FM this coming Friday (5/14), as the station will air a tribute that day, including live interviews with members of both the San Fransisco Giants and Oakland A’s plus other sports figures.

Bitker has been the KCBS Morning Drive Sports Anchor since April 1991. He also spent eleven years as the backup radio play-by-play man for the Oakland Athletics and had a seven year stint with KNBR before moving to KCBS.

In a statement released Monday, Jennifer Klurfeld Seelig, Director of News and Programming at KCBS said “Steve was truly a part of the fabric of this station throughout the morning: Madden chats, phoners with notable sports figures, thoughtful conversations in the Newsroom – and, he was always happy to offer a neighborhood restaurant recommendation. Steve was (and is) deeply committed to ensuring that KCBS maintains its longstanding reputation as a world class news station – proper grammar, attention to detail and comprehensive coverage matter to Steve very much.”
