Northern California’s largest news radio station, KCBS Radio, devoted much of its programming Wednesday to covering a mass shooting at a light rail station in San Jose.
The station sent reporters to cover the event which resulted in nine people being shot to death during the morning commute.
KCBS reporter Carrie Hodousek was live from the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where two people were rushed following the shooting. Hodousek tweeted that one of the two men brought there was pronounced dead on arrival, the other in was listed in critical condition.
The station also offered coverage of California Gov. Gavin Newsome’s press conference.
“There is a sameness and a numbness to these incidents… It begs the question: what the hell’s going on in the United States?” Newsome said.
In addition to the nine people that were killed Wednesday, police said the gunman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
KCBS Radio offers a 50,000-watt signal that covers all of San Francisco and into Sacramento.
The station is considered a vital part of the San Jose community because of its affiliation with KPIX-TV which is a CBS-TV affiliate in the same market.
The station’s digital reporters covered reactions from San Jose’s mayor and President Joe Biden.
