Todd Hollandsworth has been the analyst on the Miami Marlins’ regional cable affiliate for the last five years. That streak is over, as Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that Bally Sports has told Hollandsworth that he will not be back in 2022.
Hollandsworth played 12 major league seasons. Only one of those was a member of the Marlins, but that one year was 2003, when the team won its second World Series title.
“Bally Sports Florida has decided to explore new candidates for the Miami Marlins color analyst role,” the network said in a statement. “We thank Todd for his calls and contributions to our telecasts over the past five years and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
The Marlins will have some say in who the new television analyst will be. Ultimately though, it is Bally’s call. The team just began a new multi-year deal with the regional sports network, which reportedly pays the team $50 million per year.
Jackson reports that Paul Severino will be retained as the team’s TV play-by-play voice. If Bally Sports wants to stick with someone familiar, there are plenty of qualfied candidates to join Severino already on the network’s payroll. They include Kelly Saco, Gaby Sanchez, Cliff Floyd, Jeff Nelson, JP Arencibia, and Tommy Hutton, who was the team’s TV analyst from 1997 to 2015 and served in a studio role last season.
