Before she became a familiar voice to listeners of 670 The Score in Chicago, Leila Rahimi was on TV in the Windy City. She was part of NBC Sports Chicago until 2020. It was then that she was let go amid a round of layoffs nationwide at NBCUniversal.
Last week, Rahimi returned to TV. She is a part-time sports anchor now for NBC5 in Chicago. It makes her a multi-platform star in the Chicago sports world.
While she was initially hired to work on weekends, Rahimi is getting more airtime following the exit of Siafa Lewis. Lewis was NBC5’s lead sports anchor. Earlier this month she left the station to return to her native Philadelphia.
“I just thought that Leila was talented enough that we should find a place to put her,” said Kevin Cross, president and general manager for NBC 5, Telemundo Chicago and NBC Sports Chicago, in an interview with the Chicago Sun Times. “We had a need, but it wasn’t really so much about the need. It was about the opportunity to go after a talented individual, and we wanted to find a way to make it happen.”
Fans can still hear Leila every weekday on 670 The Score’s Bernstein and Rahimi. They can now see her too. She will typically be used 3 days per week with the TV station.
