Charlie Pallilo Out At Houston’s ESPN 97.5 and 92.5

Charlie Pallilo has exited Gow Media in Houston. The midday host told The Houston Chronicle that he was let go from ESPN 97.5 and 92.5.

Pallilo has been a fixture on Houston sports radio since coming to town in 1989. He has worked on four stations in the market.

“The classic summary is that (the station) is going in a different direction,” Pallilo said. “David Gow (president of Gow Media, which owns KFNC)) has always been great, and we’re on amicable terms. But whatever factor goes into decision-making, it’s their decision to make.”

The longtime Houston sports talk show host took a year off the air after being let go by SportsTalk 790 in 2016. He started at ESPN 97.5 and 92.5 in 2017. He says he is content to wait for his next opportunity for now.

“I’m not giddy about this, but I’m not distraught,” he said. “I can look forward to see what makes sense or might be fun or available, and that doesn’t preclude Gow Media.”

  1. Just another example how Houston Sports talk radio as with most major market cities is nothing but homer propaganda dictated to the talking heads by the sports teams to spew dull conversation and drown out objective and honest critique.

No matter the station, they are all the same. Boring and listless.

  2. If a certain mid-day program that bills itself as “the #1 sports radio show in Houston” truly IS the #1 show, then that means that Houston listeners prefer listening to juvenile, inane banter – no wonder, therefore, that a host who has consistently offered substantive and articulate commentary is out…

  3. I love Charlie he’s one of the few people who can & does teach me new words to add to my vocabulary
I sure hope he remains in Houston

    • I’m with you. I love that he didn’t dumb down the conversation. Sometimes he would use words that I didn’t know what it meant and I would enjoy that LOL. I’m a pretty smart guy so I like to learn so I like to listen to Charlie for the word of the day ????. It’s a shame these sports media companies don’t appreciate somebody like Charlie.

  4. ???? Wow. Too bad Charlie has left the station. I really enjoyed his show. It seems like all the other sports talk shows are just childish and try to be wacky with a lot of giggling and laughing. I used to listen to Charlie on 790 everyday. There was actually a billboard that I could see from my front of my house his picture. I think it was for some energy company. I thought that was so cool my favorite talk show host had a big ol billboard by my house lol. Well I’m pretty sure he will be fine and would check out his options moving forward. Good luck Charlie ????

  5. John and Lance followed by Charlie and even the guys at noon meant my radio was on 97.5. I’ll listen to John and Lance then turn the dial, sorry.

  6. Big mistake there are some of us out here who appreciate what C.P. brought to sports radio. I’ve always listened to 97.5 from 7am to 7pm now GOW media has messed this up for me. You people really need to reevaluate what you have done. This is a disservice to loyal listeners!!

  7. Charlie’s the best there is by a mile.
    this is a shame.
I listened to him for two hours every day for years.
