Adam Schefter came under fire for the wording of a tweet announcing the death of Dwayne Haskins over the weekend. In letting his follwers know about the 24-year-old’s death, Schefter characterized him as “struggling to catch on in Washington and Pittsburgh in the NFL”.
The characterization was unnecessary in announcing the death of Haskins. On the latest episode of The Adam Schefter Podcast, the NFL insider owned up to that.
“It was insensitive. It was a mistake and I assure you, it was not my intention. I wish I could have that tweet back,” he said.
Schefter did not try to clarify what he was thinking or what he meant to say. He simply apologized.
“I wanted to apologize to Dwayne’s family, his friends, players in the national football league, and offer my condolences to people close to Dwayne.”
He then dedicated a portion of the podcast to properly eulogizing Dwayne Haskins. Schefter discussed the impact he had made in Pittsburgh, noting that he had developed strong relationships with several in the organization. Some coaches even had the impression that Haskins would be a viable challenger for the starting QB role in 2022.
Schefter also talked about the relationship Dwayne Haskins had with the community. He mentioned that Haskins had settled in Pittsburgh and that he was active in charity work beyond what the Steelers had required of their players. He noted that on a recent Steelers fan cruise, Haskins quickly became a favorite player of those on board.
