Sinclair Broadcasting Group revealed on Wednesday that its long-talked-about streaming service Bally Sports+ is closer than expected. The company revealed some details on an earnings call according to The Streamable.
CEO Chris Ripley revealed that fans will get their first look at the service very soon. He promised a soft launch during this quarter. He also revealed two price points. Fans can pay $189.99 annually or $19.99 per month.
The timeline is good news to cord-cutters that are sports fans. DirecTV Stream is the only streaming service that carries the Bally Sports regional networks. They have been dropped by YouTube TV, Sling TV, Hulu, and fuboTV at various points during the last two years.
The monthly price for Bally Sports+ is lower than MLB.TV and NBA League Pass. One concern is that there may not be enough content for Bally Sports+ to have mass appeal. Sinclair owns the local media rights to 38 teams across the NBA, NHL, and Major League Baseball. While all of the NBA and NHL partners have reached terms to give Sinclair their streaming rights, only five MLB partners have.
