Craig Carton is returning to national television. Andrew Marchand reports that the WFAN afternoon co-host will be at the center of a new morning show on FS1 beginning this fall.
“Carton and FS1 have a content development deal for the TV show,” Marchand writes, “meaning he and the network will work together on the rest of its makeup.”
This likely means a major shakeup is coming to FS1. One thing for certain according to Marchand’s report, Carton will go head-to-head against former WFAN partner Boomer Esiason in morning drive. Boomer & Gio are simulcast on CBS Sports Network.
The arrival of Carton to FS1’s morning airwaves raises questions about the futures of the First Things First crew, namely Nick Wright. Wright’s program, First Things First airs currently from 7:30a-9:30a so it is possible that the show could be moved earlier in the morning to make room for Carton. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
The other interesting dynamic is how doing a daily morning show on FS1 will effect Carton in afternoons on WFAN. Though he has the talent and energy to do both, and that is the plan according to the report, what if challenges arise in the future? Chris Oliviero and Spike Eskin have supported Carton, and understand his value to WFAN, so if anyone can navigate this situation smoothly it’s the Audacy New York brain trust.
This isn’t the first time that Carton’s name has been mentioned in connection with TV since he returned to WFAN. Last year, he discussed joining MLB Network for a new morning show, a deal that ultimately did not come to fruition.
