The media star is already bright for Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, and it’s only getting brighter. Along with being a frequently sought-after sound byte, he inked a multi-year deal in January to be a contributor to Turner’s Inside the NBA. Also while an active player he has a successful podcast, the Draymond Green Show, that is unabashedly raw and unfiltered. Just like the show’s namesake.
Green is getting ready to play for the NBA Championship but podcasting is still a commitment he’s true to since signing a deal back in November. Each week, including during the playoffs, Green has brought you inside his bubble. He’s also been diligently learning.
He’s under the umbrella of The Volume, Colin Cowherd’s podcasting venture that currently produces fourteen podcasts. Green’s is one of the most interesting on the roster. On the latest Colin Cowherd Podcast, we got insight into Green’s work ethic.
“Draymond, more than professional athlete I have ever worked with at a podcast company or a television network or a radio network, has demanded at The Volume that we hard-coach him,” Cowherd boasted. “He doesn’t want to hear us say he’s great. He’s not interested.”
Cowherd continued to praise Green. “He is a podcaster like he is a player. He gets up every morning ‘coach me hard, I want to be better.’ I got to tell you, as a broadcaster, it’s unbelievable. I’ve been doing this twenty-five years, man. You are one of one.”
That’s high praise coming from Cowherd. Green was noticeable appreciative of the praise but he told Cowherd that he loves being coached. “The coaching, I appreciate it. I’ve learned so much this year in doing this.” He’s just 39 episodes into the show.
“I watch film on myself with these things,” added Green. “I take notes with the coaching and I try to incorporate that into my next segment. For you guys being experts in this space and having all the experience that you have, I appreciate you all for teaching me and showing me how this podcast thing should be done.”
Draymond Green revealed that he had a very different idea of what podcasting was when he started. “In my mind Colin, I thought it was just ‘you go pick up a microphone and you go talk and it just flows’ and it’s so different.”
