You can now add LSU Athletics to the world of streaming providers. The university has partnered with Playfly Sports to launch LSU GOLD, an exclusive, on-demand content streaming service. The launch date is scheduled for August 1.
LSU says the service will offer unprecedented access to the LSU Tigers year-round. It is set to include behind-the-scenes documentary series, podcasts, in-depth interviews and more.
LSU GOLD will be priced at $8.99 a month and be available to stream on mobile devices, desktop and laptop computers. It is also going to be available to OTT streaming platforms, Roku, Apple TV, Android TV and Amazon Fire TV.
“Through the launch of our subscription content network, LSU GOLD, and the convergence of our creative talents in South Stadium Productions, LSU Athletics is taking the next step to ensure we continue to lead the nation in innovative, engaging storytelling,” said Director of Athletics Scott Woodward.
Several episodic offerings are already in the works and will be a part of the service. One of those is called The Follow, an all-access documentary detailing football coach Brian Kelly’s first season beginning with his arrival in December. LSU also aims to offer a series entitled Eye to Eye which features in-depth interviews with LSU’s coaches, student-athletes and staff.
LSU is not the first university to enter the subscription streaming world. Maryland is in the space with Terrapin Club+, Clemson offers Clemson+, Oklahoma State has OSU Max and Notre Dame has Fighting Irish TV.
University-specific streaming options is a market that continues to grow. Matt Brown of Extra Points expects similar products from the University of North Carolina and the University of South Carolina.
The streaming space continues to clutter in a battle for the consumer’s dollar. Earlier this month, NESN also announced a new streaming service that began on June 1, NESN 360.
