Dan Patrick asked Tom Brady some tough questions about his future during an interview that aired Wednesday. The pre-recorded interview was meant to promote Hertz, a company the Buccaneers quarterback endorses. Still, Patrick made time to talk about his future in the broadcasting world.
Brady said he is optimistic about what he can accomplish. He just hopes that his bosses and his audience realize he won’t be a finished product in his first game on FOX.
“It’s a new opportunity for me to try something that I’m going to work really hard to prepare to be as good as I possibly can be, knowing that the day I walk on the set for the first time won’t be my finest moment,” he said. “There’ll be a lot of growing pains, and I’ll have to learn to be really good at it.”
Dan Patrick pointed out that Drew Brees found it hard to transition to broadcasting, but noted that studio work is tougher to transition to after playing than being a game analyst is. Brady acknowledged that it won’t be easy, but he said NFL quarterbacks have more exposure to the business than some may realize.
“I’ve been in every production meeting for 22 years since I started playing in 2001. I know what those guys are asking, I know what they’re asked to do.”
Plenty have questioned just how much FOX will get back on its $375 million investment in Tom Brady. It sounds like the GOAT is prepared to deal with the early criticism and also to work through it. He will almost certainly have a long leash.
In the early going, Brady says he is going to simply enjoy the chance to stay around the sport and continue to travel.
