Do you subscribe to ESPN+? If so, get ready for a little bit of sticker shock, because next month, the price goes up by 43%.
On August 23, the monthly price of access to the streaming platform jumps from $6.99 to $9.99 according to John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal. The yearly price also goes up from $69.99 to $99.99.
Prices of the Disney bundle, which includes Disney+ and Hulu, and of UFC pay-per-view events will not be impacted.
Customer concerns and complaints can be met with three arguments from ESPN. First, even at the new, higher rate, ESPN+ still has a lower price tag than competitors DAZN and Bally Sports+. Next, ESPN has added NHL Center Ice and PGA Tour Live, both of which carried higher price tags, into ESPN+’s offerings.
Finally, ESPN will likely point to the live events ESPN+ gives fans access to, including MLB, the NHL, college football and basketball, two major tennis tournaments, PGA Tour Live, the UFC, and so much more. The service has become a virtual must-have for soccer fans.
ESPN+ has seen its subscription base grow each quarter since launching in 2019. In May, Disney reported that the service had 22.3 million subscribers.
