Tony Romo Not Bothered By No Longer Being Highest Paid Broadcaster

Stephen Douglas of The Big Lead did a wide-ranging interview with CBS’s Tony Romo this week. The interview was set up to promote Romo’s partnership with the Cattleman’s Beef Board, so there is plenty of grilling talk as well as golf talk.

The two do get around to talking about broadcasting. Douglas noted that Romo’s most recent CBS contract completely changed the market.

It was unheard of to pay a broadcaster $17 million per year before Tony Romo secured that paycheck. Now, he has been surpassed by Troy Aikman and Tom Brady as the highest-paid broadcaster in the NFL. That isn’t something that bothers him.

“I think there’s a lot of talented play-by-play and analysts out there. Troy [Aikman] and Joe [Buck], I’m really happy for them.”

In fact, it sounds as if Romo wouldn’t mind being surpassed again. Who could blame him? As long as the market keeps going up for the guys that offer unique NFL insight, he knows he is in line for a raise when the time comes.

“I think everyone in the industry supports each other,” the former Cowboys quarterback said. “I mean for us, anytime somebody makes money, it’s a good thing. It’s like players like everyone thinks they’re gonna be upset, it’s like well all when somebody makes more money that’s helping out everybody else and so I think it’s well deserved.”
