Discussing the current rate of global inflation, Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver had harsh words for CNBC’s Jim Cramer this week on HBO.
“What if a garbage can full of cocaine and business school pamphlets wished to be a real boy?”, Oliver asked, before playing a clip of Cramer saying inflation would go away on its own.
“This clip, much like Jim Cramer himself, hasn’t aged very well,” the British comedian joked before airing a clip of Cramer 6 months later insinuating Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell didn’t understand inflation wasn’t going away. “It is not going away. I was shocked. I just didn’t know it’s as bad as it is,” Cramer says in the undated clip. “It’s in every aisle. Inflation’s in every aisle.”
“That was a pretty dramatic turnaround,” Oliver said.
He finished his takedown of the Mad Money host by saying “the fact is a lot of smart people, and Jim Cramer, read this situation wrong.”
