Syndicated radio host Erick Erickson discussed LIV Golf Tuesday calling it a power play by the Saudi Arabians and comparing it to the current state of news media where prominent voices tend to go where the people are.
Erickson said his radio show is “uncancellable” based on his influence on Substack and the fact that if his advertisers were ever scared away, he would use his subscriber money to pay for his syndication costs.
According to his website, Erickson is syndicated on at least 20 radio stations across the country.
Erickson said LIV has managed to capture an influential audience much like some of the national TV shows that air on the weekend. He mentioned “Meet the Press,” “Face the Nation,” and ABC’s “World News Tonight” as shows with targeted audiences.
“Those Sunday shows don’t have a lot of eyeballs, but they have a lot of influence in Washington D.C,” Erickson said. “You are not the target audience for those programs, Washington D.C. is.”
Erickson said LIV Golf reminds him of his days at RedState, a conservative website owned by Salem Media.
“We were not the largest website, we were not even the largest blog out there on the right, but we were the most influential,” said Erickson.
Erickson said LIV Golf has something in common with the radio and television industry in that the audience may not be large for certain outlets but they can be influential.
“LIV is funded by the Saudis because they are trying to capture the eyeballs of the who’s who of America,” Erickson added.
