Alpha Media is flipping the format of hip-hop We 102.9 to sports. Starting on Monday, local listeners will be introduced to the Panhandle Sports Star.
The “Sports Star” brand is currently in use by the company’s San Antonio station, which recently hit the FM airwaves.

The station will feature mostly ESPN Radio programming, while adding a pair of local shows. Lance Lahnert, a columnist for the Amarillo Globe-News, will host “The Drive” from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, while Jake Boesen and Allen Roberson will host “The Sports Nerds” from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM.
Both shows had previously aired, in some iteration, on Alpha Media’s Amarillo news-talk station KGNC.
