The PM Team: New Thursday Night Football Theme ‘Sucks’

With their upcoming debut of Thursday Night Football, Amazon Prime Video needed to create a new theme song for the broadcast, which was released last week. It’s safe to say The PM Team on 93.7 The Fan isn’t in the camp that enjoyed what Amazon produced.

Andrew Fillipponi and Chris Mueller went through the list, in their eyes, of the great sports television theme songs. College Football on CBS, MLB on FOX that the network no longer uses, and Roundball Rock made the cut, before playing the new Thursday Night Football theme.

“Oh god, this sucks,” Chris Mueller said. “This is like the fugazi version of a sports theme song. It’s like they hired somebody but it was the cheapest person possible to compose something. It’s like if you gave an artificial intelligence, you pumped into it all the sports theme songs that have ever been written, and then said write your own based on this to AI.”

“This sounds like Purdue is getting ready to play Illinois on the Big Ten Network,” Fillipponi said as the new Thursday Night Football theme song played.

“It sounds like Pam Ward is ready to bring you the action from a cold and rainy Lafayette, Indiana,” said Mueller.

“That is just brutal,” Fillipponi continued as he criticized the song. “Amazon’s got all this money. (Jeff) Bezos is trying to break into the NFL game and that is what his people came up with? There’s nothing iconic about that and there will never be anything iconic about that.”

“Just find Tom Petty. Play a different Tom Petty song before each game,” Fillipponi suggested.
