Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, returned to the White House Wednesday for the unveiling of their official portraits. It marked the first time the 44th President returned to the home since 2017, and Fox News host Greg Gutfeld wasn’t as excited about the occasion as other in the “liberal media”.
Gutfeld said the “liberal media” were “gushing like school children” during the occasion. The Five then aired several clips of the portraits being unveiled on MSNBC, NBC News, and ABC News.
“Look at that portrait, Jessica,” Gutfeld said to panelist Jessica Tarlov. “Can we can we see that portrait again of former President Obama? I find this striking. Jessica, can we see it there. Did you notice what’s missing? His background!”
After other panelists chuckled, Tarlov didn’t respond, which prompted Gutfeld to say the segment should be over.
Tarlov responded by saying “I get it. He’s Kenyan. Whatever,” in response to Gutfeld’s implied joke about the birthplace of the former President.
President Obama faced questions about the legitimacy of his candidacy during the 2008 Democratic Primary. Challengers claimed he was born in Kenya, not in Hawaii, and that his birth certificate is a forgery. Donald Trump, not a political candidate at the time, brought the claim back to the public eye in 2011.
