CNN contributor and prominent Georgia Attorney Page Pate died Sunday afternoon after being swept into a rip current off the coast of St. Simons Island.
The Glynn County Fire-Rescue received a call around 2:00 PM Sunday about “two swimmers in distress”. Pate’s son was able to reach shore safely but the 55-year-old was later pulled from the water and later taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to a local newspaper, currents along the shoreline where Pate was swimming are some of the strongest along the east coast.
Pate was a longtime contributor to CNN. He often was a guest on various programs to discuss insight and perspective on criminal defense as well as constitutional law. He also contributed to NPR, The New York Times, and the Associated Press.
