Clay Travis, Buck Sexton Defend WFLA After Tampa Bay Lightning Move to 102.5 The Bone

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced yesterday they are moving their radio broadcasts to 102.5 The Bone after airing games for the last decade on conservative talk station NewsRadio WFLA. Clay Travis and Buck Sexton were thrilled to hear the news.

A report from Creative Loafing Tampa Bay pointed out the station “spent a significant portion of the pandemic spreading COVID-19 disinformation”, which The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show took aim at.

“There’s a news story that’s saying that the Tampa Bay Lightning have moved from WFLA as their station…because of COVID misinformation,” Sexton said.

“If this has really happened, this is a goldmine for us,” said Travis. “A Florida based team is not going to be on a radio station that we’re on because they’re accusing us of COVID misinformation?”

The story from Creative Loafing Tampa Bay did not accuse the Lightning of moving their games from NewsRadio WFLA because of COVID-19 disinformation, it simply stated the station’s history of airing content discussing the ineffectiveness from the COVID-19 vaccine, which included hosts Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Travis and Sexton. Meanwhile, 102.5 The Bone boasts Florida’s strongest radio signal with 100,000 watts.

Travis continued by saying the pair, along with Outkick.com, are “going to absolutely obliterate this team. They have no idea. I hope that we have some Tampa Bay Lightning executives listening right now. I want to let you know, prepare…we are about to unleash holy hell on you, Tampa Bay Lightning, and you have no idea what you’re in for. So if you’re listening to us on WFLA in Tampa and you’ve got friends who work with the Tampa Bay Lightning, you better tell them that they have no idea about the Mack truck that is about to flatten their team.”

According to Awful Announcing, which transcribed the audio, the segments spent on the subject during The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show were not present on the show’s podcast uploaded after the conclusion of Wednesday’s show.

During the Lightning’s contract with NewsRadio WFLA, it was the only NHL franchise whose radio flagship aired a political talk station.
