Washington Nationals television analyst Kevin Frandsen got an earful from Boomer Esiason after he took a shot at the New York Mets and Pete Alonso in a game that didn’t even involve the team.
The Nationals hit Atlanta Braves star Austin Riley in a game this week. WFAN morning show update anchor Jerry Recco played the ensuing audio on Boomer and Gio that sent a barb towards the Metropolitans.
“Completely different from Pete Alonso, right?” Frandsen said of Riley’s nonchalant reaction to getting hit. “Austin Riley gets smoked right there and doesn’t really make a big deal out of it. Where’s Snit (Braves manager Brian Snitker) at? Is Snit at the top step looking at him like, ‘Why’d you throw at my guy?’” Frandsen said in a voice meant to mock Mets manager Buck Showalter. “Can’t pitch at Pete. He wears all the body armor in the world and he’s always complaining.”
The Mets have already broken the record for most times hit by a pitch and Alonso has twice been hit in the head by pitches. That’s why Esiason took exception and noted that he’ll remember this one, especially since the Nationals play at the Mets to end the season.
“I’ll tell ya what, I’m taking receipts on this one, damn straight,” Esiason said. “And by the way, the Mets broke a record for being hit this year…so shut your piehole!”
