ESPN and Omaha Productions debuted College Football Primetime with The Pat McAfee Show last week, and “the McAfeecast” produced well in the ratings.
251,000 viewers watched the alternate broadcast of Clemson and North Carolina State. 5 million watched the game’s regular broadcast on ABC. The 251,000 number equates to roughly five percent of the regular audience, which is a comparable number to the debut of the Manningcast for Monday Night Football a year ago. The first Manningcast saw an audience of 800,000 compared to 15.3 million viewers on ABC and ESPN.
In comparison, the KayRod Cast of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball averaged just over 200,000 viewers for its eight broadcasts, reaching a high of 336,000 during an August appearance by Derek Jeter. The previous high was 264,000 for its debut broadcast.
ESPN has scheduled the McAfeecast for five more alternate broadcasts during its remaining schedule. It’s an expansion of the relationship between ESPN and McAfee after he joined the cast of College GameDay last month.
McAfee said he felt good about the debut of the show, and feels more comfortable going forward after getting the debut under his belt.
