InfoWars founder Alex Jones was ordered to pay nearly $1 billion in damages to families whose children were murdered during the Sandy Hook massacre nearly a decade ago, and conservative radio host Charlie Kirk called the judgement “abhorrent”.
Kirk explained he was trending on Twitter after the judgement because of his history of defending Jones.
“Understand I tweeted out about this yesterday about the injustice of someone having to pay a billion dollars for having a wrong opinion or perspective about something,” The Charlie Kirk Show host said. “And I had a lot of people texting me and a lot of people messaging me saying ‘Charlie, lay off the Alex Jones topic. Just stay away from it’. And even today people saying ‘Charlie, just don’t waste your time. Alex Jones is a nut. Just don’t worry about it’. And maybe a couple of years ago, I might have stayed away from it.”
“Let me be very clear: I disagree with Alex Jones on plenty of things. I agree with Alex Jones on somethings,” Kirk continued. “There are plenty of things through the years that Alex Jones could have done differently. Clearly, the Sandy Hook thing was not right. He admits that. He admits it, he said he made a mistake in the Sandy Hook situation. I didn’t like what he did there. A lot of people didn’t like it. So does that mean you can crush someone and bankrupt them and demand a $1 billion judgement?”
Kirk then admitted he wish he had spoken out about Alex Jones being removed from digital platforms after his insistence that the Sandy Hook massacre was a false flag, calling it a “mistake” and “that was setting the groundwork” to be able for entities to collude to remove conservative voices.
