America’s most demonized conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was ordered to pay nearly a billion dollars to the families of the Sandy Hook shooting and an FBI agent this week. The decision was rendered after a Texas jury ordered him to pay $50 million to the parents of another slain child.
On Thursday, Glenn Beck called the decision “very damaging” to the First Amendment.
“If we go after Alex Jones, don’t the people that were riding the horses on the [Southern] border, can’t they sue the Federal Government for a billion dollars because the DHS came out yesterday admitting to falsifying the whipping incident?” Beck asked.
Steve Burguiere aka “Stu” said that he never thought of Alex Jones as the head conspirator when it came to the Sandy Hook shooting story.
“He had guests on that said things and he did say things that he apologized for but the fact that someone in his audience that may or may not have heard this from Alex Jones and may have gone and harassed one of these families, that person should be held responsible for those actions, not the person you think you may have heard it from,” Stu said.
Beck said the problem is one of the victims killed himself behind what a Jones supporter may have said to him.
“It’s natural to want to punish somebody,” added Beck. “If you watched the verdict, none of the parents were celebrating like they were going to get rich. Those people broke down and sobbed immediately. You could see this was closure for them.”
