After several high profile departures under new President and CEO Chris Licht, is CNN planning on axing Jim Acosta?
A report from News Cycle Media’s Jon Nicosia claims a Warner Brothers Discovery executive has told him Acosta is next on the chopping block for the network.
“He does not have a place in the new CNN,” the executive reportedly told Nicosia. “He reminds us of the Zucker period we are looking to move far from. The only reason he is still on air was not to look like we were ‘cleaning house’ for political reasons right after the closing.”
Nicosia revealed the discussions early last week before reporting it was in fact Acosta who was the subject of the quotes. Acosta has frequently been at the forefront of pressing Republican elected officials for answers to difficult questions, with some saying the reporter is “combative” with conservatives. He regularly clashed with Donald Trump and his various White House Press Secretaries, as well as Republican congressional members like Marjorie Taylor Greene.
A CNN source told Mediaite the insinuation that Acosta could be the next CNN employee to be fired is “absolute bullshit”.
The Warner Brothers Discovery source also reportedly told Nicosia that Acosta was just the first of many other “old guard” CNN employees facing removal.
