The 2022 MLB League Championship Series’ saw a dip in ratings.
The American League Championship Series, which aired on TBS, saw an average audience of 5.179 million. The National League Championship Series, airing on FOX and FS1, averaged 4.656 million viewers.
Those numbers are down slightly from the 2021 numbers, with the ALCS last year seeing an average of 4.75 million viewers while the NLCS averaged 5.23 million. The series aired on the opposite channels in 2021 compared to 2022, with the ALCS airing on FOX/FS1 and the NLCS airing on TBS.
The 2022 League Championship Series featured strong baseball markets, as the New York (#1), Houston (#6), Philadelphia (#9), and San Diego (#16) are all in the top 20 largest markets in the country.
In 2021, the teams represented in the LCS’ were from markets #2 (Los Angeles), #6 (Houston), #8 (Atlanta), and #10 (Boston).
The 2022 series were also hampered by being over early. The NLCS went five games with the Phillies winning, and the ALCS being a sweep by the Astros.
The previous rounds of the MLB Playoffs had been ratings wins for the league, with the Division Series round being the most watched since 2017, while the Wild Card Round saw an uptick of 64%.
