He gave them plenty of time to announce a successor. Now, 94WIP has done just that. Joe Decamara and Jon Ritchie will replace the legendary Angelo Cataldi in morning drive on the Philadelphia sports radio station.
Audacy Philadelphia Vice President and Market Manager David Yadgaroff and 94WIP Brand Manager Rod Lakin joined Cataldi to make the announcement.
“I have two primary aims here. One is to, hopefully, provide a great show. I’ve got very lofty expectations on who we’re going to reach out to to provide a great show,” DeCamara said. “But the second is to make you proud, Angelo.”
DeCamara has been a fixture in the Philadelphia market, hosting shows for both 94WIP and 97.5 The Fanatic for the past 16 years. He had previously been partnered with Ritchie from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM on the station.
In addition to his work with 94WIP, Ritchie also served as the co-host of The Artie Lange Show, as well as an analyst for ESPN and NBC Sports Network. He played seven seasons in the NFL, spending his final two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
“They made absolutely the right decision,” Cataldi said. “One-hundred percent the right decision. If there’s anything I can do to help you along the way, I’d be honored to do it. If we have to hand it off to anybody, these are the people we should be handing it off to.”
Cataldi announced he would retire in 2022 in October of last year. The 71-year-old then said he would continue on the station’s morning show until the Philadelphia Eagles season concluded. He also joked if the Eagles were bad this year “I’m done around Christmas”. He began hosting the morning show in 1989 on the station.
Earlier this month, Cataldi pressed Lakin on who would replace him. Lakin said at the time that an announcement would be made “sooner rather than later”. Today, Philadelphia sports radio listeners finally learned who will lead WIP forward in morning drive.
The station also announced morning co-host Al Morganti will continue to be on the station, but will no longer be apart of the morning show. News anchor Rhea Hughes will continue in the morning timeslot. Morning show producer James Seltzer will continue to serve in that role with DeCamara & Ritchie.
94WIP will announce a new midday show in the coming weeks.
Joe’s right about getting 9 yds & 2 dns to get a 1st. 2 plays gets you 18 yds. 4, 1st dns gets you 72 yds & a touch down. 1 play for 10 yds & 4, 1st dns gets you only 40 yds & only a chance for a long field goal.
