The 60-year-old joined ESPN in 1986, and has ascended to call the last eight College Football National Championship Games with partner Kirk Herbstreit, pairing for one of college football’s most formidable booths.

The report from Michael McCarthy lists FOX Sports as a possible landing spot for Fowler, noting he would be a welcomed addition as the host of the network’s Big Noon Kickoff show. The role would be a comfortable one for the host, as Fowler served as the host of College GameDay from 1990-2014.

ESPN is reportedly “playing hardball” in negotiations with talent after paying Troy Aikman, Joe Buck, and Stephen A. Smith more than $10 million each.
